At this time the Highland lights were last seen, and there was a slight baze on the water, but # splendid moonlight over head. Nearly three fourths of the passengers slept on deck, including many ladies, no accommodations being pro- vided below, on account of the intoxication of the stewards, The provisions also gave out, ice water was not to be bad by the majority, and even facilities for washing were entirely ignored. Twenty-five cents was paid for a giaes of water to drink, and one dollar for a ba- sin full, Immense tndignation prevails, and « large number of ee return home to-night by way of Philadel- ia. An indignation meeting was heid on board this morn- ing, denouncing the whole affair as a gigantic swindle. Most of the members of the press were up all night, ‘with one or two exceptions, one of whom slept in a sheep pen with a New York detective. The directors on board were evidently unprepared for the emergency, and did ail in their power to alleviate the necessities of the excursionists. All gave up their apart- ments freely, and they were occupied by strangers. Funny scenes transpired on board during the night. Dancing was commenced at twelve o’clock, but it was of an entirely impromptu character, and not participated in by ladies. Considerable excitement prevails in this locality con- cerning the arrival. Crowds of people are going off to see the ship, while numbers of boats from Philadelphia areon their way with visiters. It is estimated that week.
