James Gordon, formerly from Boston, but latterly from ‘Nebraska, who has hitherto enjoyed the reputation of a (peaceable man, shot a barkeeper one night last week ‘while on a spree, seriously wounding him in the leg. An indignation meeting was held on board this morn- ing, denouncing the whole affair as a gigantic swindle. Most of the members of the press were up all night, ‘with one or two exceptions, one of whom slept in a sheep pen with a New York detective. The directors on board were evidently unprepared for the emergency, and did all in their power to alleviate the necessities of the excursionists. Ali gave up their apart- ments freely, and they were occupied by strangers. Funny scenes transpired on board during the night. Dancing was commenced at twelve o’clock, but it was of ‘an entirely impromptu character, and not participated in by ladies. Considerable excitement prevails in this locality con- cerning the arrival. Crowds of people are going off to see the ship, while numbers of boats from Philadelphia areon their way with visiters. It is estimated that eight or ten thousand people will visit the ship today. She leaves here at six o’clock to-night, and will reach New York about six o'clock to morrow morning? The Galway Steamship Connaught. Boston, July 31, 1860. The Galway steamship Connaught will not leave here until the 7th of August, when the repairs to her machine- ry will be thoroughly completed. She is a magnificent veesel, and is expected to compete favorably with the feetest and safest ocean steamers afloat.
