The Princo lands in the morning. A royal salute ‘wee fired from the batteries. There were great crowds om the wharves, and the display of bunting was very fixe. Sr. Jouys, July 24, 1860. ‘Torrente of rain fell last night and this morning. The ‘Prmmee was to land at ten o'clock, but the landing was postponed till noon on account of the weather. ‘The reception to be given to the Princo in Cana- @m will be conducted on tho most extensive style of Canadian hospitality. For several days before the ar- rival of the fleet the excitement of the populace began wo Dubble up to fever heat. Everybody scemed to think ‘that be bad nothing to do but to aid in the arrangements fer the reception of his Royal Highness. The French (Canadians and the English, among whom thero are some peints of national difference, have coalesced and faternized ‘m the most complete and satisfactory manner. The ap- pearance of the Prince of Wales, the noble son of their ‘ainstrious covercign, is the one pervading theme that oc- opies their minds. That the people are in earnest thero can be no doubt, The arrangements for the reception of ‘the young Prince have been most extensive and compiete, es the particulars we supply will show. Ox tho first day of bis arrival at St. Johns, the Gov- ernor, Bishops, Judges and Councillors will meet tho ‘veyal party on Queen’s wharf, and tho diiivrent societies, beaded bythe Masonic body, will form an escort to the On the second day the Prince will hold @ leveo and re- oeive an address, There will be a regatta on Lake Quidi ‘Vidi, and probably the Princo will drive round the Lake, ‘Bp the evening there will be a grand ball, which the Prince On the third day he will embark, and the arrangements will be the same as at his landing. ‘The House of Parliament has been handsomely deco- rated, and much enthasiasyn prevailed. Tho Halifax Acadian Recorder is exerc! tion of etiquette. It says:—~ ‘Wo are spt upon this continent to look too lightly apon ail matters of court etiquette, It is far otherwise in Bu- rope; and no reasouable person ean doubt that much of the formality, x3 much as practicable of “tho pomp and cireumstanes,’ which characterize the Puropean On the ques- pean courta, will be observed in the Provinces during the Prince's vi- Sit. If this view is correct, or whether it is 80 or not to It is, however, auderatood that no one will bo allowed» to speak to his Royal Highness so long as he is bis Royal unless he addresses his visiter frst. Vansittart, andthe royal yacht Orborne, 1, Master George H. K, Bower, Tho yacht will be used by the Prince in the co lony. Pa ‘The screw steam sloop Flying Fish reached St. Johns some days ago. ‘His Royal Highness is to drop all royal state on entering the American repub!ic. In the British colonies it will, however, be preserved, and will doubtless prove irksome enough, both to him and to those about him, Col. Bruce is understood to have strict orders to see that bo is treated like her Majesty tho Queon in all respects, and Col. Braco ig not the man to dieobey orders. Every one who ig re- ceived at the Government House—-that is to say, every one who oceupies a respectable position in society—will have an opportunity of being preaented; but as for con- versation with the Prince, that is quite another matter. Nobody will be able to address the Prince until he ad- dresses bim, gud aa the royal youth is, to say the least of it, reserved in his demeanor, there will not be very frequent interchanges of ideas. An unlimited number of addreases are being prepared all over the colonies, and the Governor General’s Secretary had requested that early copies of them may be sent in to him, so that replies may be pre- pared. This will, of course, be the only way in which municipal bodies, Magonic Grand Lodges, or even Presby- terlan or Anglican Synods, will be able to coms within reach of their august visiter. The Parliament Houses, which are being fitted up asa palace for the Price and the chicf members of his suite, have been made to look well, both inside and out. Tho Houge of Assembly will be his Royal Highness’ dining room. It has been carpeted with green, which brings out in striking contrast the richly gilt frames of the pictures on the walls, Theso are, firstly, a full length portrait of her Majesty Queen Victoria, in her robes of Stato, by Partridge, her family painter; grouped around are half length likencases of the varioup Speakers of tho Commons of Canada. The Council Chamber is to be the reception room. On eithe side of the throne to be occupied by his Royal Highness aro the full Jength portraits of King Gcorgo Ill. and Queen Charlotte, painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds in his Dest style. These are supported by likenesses of the va- rious Speakers of the Council. The former offices of the Houses have been farnished as sitting and dressing rooms for the suite, each ina different and rather neat than sumptuous style. The furniture for tho Prince’s room will be very magnificent. Preparations somewhat similar to these have been made all over Canada, wherever the Prince of Wales will stay for even a night, aud the expense of the wholo will probably amount to something more than $500,000. r Of tho Prince himself but httle, of course, can be said. Ho is now only in his nineteenth year, and the whole of his life, since he bas been able to comprehend the firat principles of instruction, has been spent amid the classic shades of Oxford and beneath the affectionate eyes of a Joving abd @ virtuous mother. On his return from America be is to resume his studies at Oxford, and after- wards at Cambridge. RECEPTION OF THE PRINCE OF WALES AT ST. JOHNS. Sr. Jona, July 24, 1860. At noon to-day the Prince of Wales and suite landed from the Horo under a royal talute from the citadel, the Ariadne and the Plying Fish, the yards of which wore manned, as also those of the French war ewamer Jo- sastris, The Governor, Sir Alex, Bannerman, met his Royal Highnesa on Queen's wharf and conducted Bim a car- riage, drove from thence through triamphal arches to the Government House. The procession consisted of the Ma- sonic body, tho St. Androw's, St. Goorgo’s, British Mo chanics’, Coopers’, Temperance, Native and trish Societics, and the Phonix Volunteer Fire Company; a guard of honor of the Royal Nowfound!and Corps, and of tho First, Second, Third and Fourth Volunteer Ritle Corps. At one o'clock the Prince held a levee at the Govern- ment Howse, ang dines with the Governor this evening. Thero waa an immense coacouree of spectators, and great enthosiastwa prevatiod. On Wednesday a regatta will come of. ‘The Prmoe drives out, receives addresaes, &e., and will embark on Thursday evening. To-day is @ holiday in Newfoundland; all shops aro closed in St. Johns and in the villages surrounding, the inhabitante of which are nearly all here, Flags are flying om ov ry Louse, and the shipping is all decorated, The Hero, coming in, passed directly over Merlin Rock, butdid not touch it, although it was low water. The Rock had becm blasted by the telegraph company five years ago. ‘Tho weather is cloudy and threatening. The rain ceased at eleven o'clock. Tuo Prinee fode out on horseback Tuesday afternoon, in plain clothes. The squadron sails at six o'clock on Tharsday morning, THE PREPARATIONS IN THE BRITISH PRO- VINCES. OR SPECIAL MONTREAL CORRESPONDENCE. ‘St. Lawnever Hart Hore, Moyrerat, July 19, 1300. } ‘Toronto bas the appearance of having been a thriving city, but the elects of the great panic are everywhere virible about it, Its newspaper prose, however, appears t ¥@ very toarighing, for it has three morning and one vening jourfal, and besides these there are several woeklics-—tnaking eleven in all. One of these was, during the time of my stay, arging on the inhabitants to make preparations for the reesptioa ef his Roya) Highness, and reproaching them fur thelr apathy, Spare them, how- ever, “ny 1; they will be excited cnough before the reception is Over. Meanwhile rapid progress is being mage with a temporary structure, in which a grand ball te to be given to the august visiter, and at which I have every proepect of dancing a quadrille with Lady Blancho Blancliefor tithes will abound plentifully at these great gathorings of the fe, I pereeive by the newepapers that the living body of ‘he Prins of Wales is likely to become the object of a tore vere contest than was the dead body of Achilles, The best mode of honoriag the illustrious son of Queen Victoria is now occupying the minds of the million, not onty fm Beitieh America, but wherever on the Continent ho is likely to set bis foot.
