The following are the last quotations of sight exchange on New York at the cities mentioned, | Our streets have been filled with ramors that the Gover- ions being in all cases for gold:— nor intended to veto this bill, and it is nok to be comoealed aon pind a ois 4 premium, | tat great unxiety hee been'creatad amcng all elatues by aK & decision upon the company’s affaire cannot be epeedily arrived a} by correspondence; therefore the Board wili consider their relatious with the committee #3 ternuiuates, unless otherwise directed at the next meeting of the shareholders. We are informed thst a majority of the present committee concar in this opinion. We have nothing certain yet from Missouri.in re~ lation to the action of the Governor of Missouri on the Railroad Relief bill recently adopted at the upe- cial session of the Legislature. At the latest ad- vices, the Senate had not concurred in the House resolution of final adjournment, and the session still continued, awaiting the decision of *ne Gover- nor. The Kepudlican of the 20th inst, says: — ) the bare suggestion of euch a terminativa to tho labors of this called session, We have, ag our Zeaders kuow, given bo currency to these ramors. We did not feel warranted in doing %, upon eny such looge authority, by any act in Go. verLor Stewart's lie. We have not believed; and do not be- lieve vow, that he will \urn bis back upon bis past history —regect and cast off his own oil¥pring, as it were—refuse to confirm the very act of the Legislature which. tn bis pro- clamation, he bud summoned them to ensct—uniess for Detter reasous than apy we bave heard suggested, Ho is ettitled to time tocensider of this question, just as the Le giature took tme to matare and present it to bim, and we bope Poon to hear that it bas received bi approval and signature. The objection urged by those who he bas it in contemp!ation to veto this bill is, tbat tho Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad Company is not relieved from the forfeiture of ita charter, incurred by the violagon of that provision of the law in regard to illegal banking, witich hibits them from receiving or paying out small notes. Neither, so fer as this is concerned, is the Pacific, or either of the roads named in uns bill, They all stand on the same platform, end have stood there for years, as bas nearly covery other corporation in the State, and Pf argument of this kind, a8 against tbe approval of bill, is whoily untepable. Governor Stewart will never give any such reason as this fora veto. So, too, in re- ard to the fa'lnre to incluce the Piatte county road in the ill. The Legisiature did not see its way clear, we may presume, in making provision for ald to this road, but surely that does not constitute a good reason for a veto. The Jefferson City correspondent of the same paper furnishes astatement of the financial posi- tion of Missouri, from which we compile the follow- ing:— E The stock market was steady today, without particular animation. Some operators who bought fer the rise a few weeks ago, and sold out on Mon- @ay and Tuesday, are anxious to see a decline, soas @ renew their operation; but the purchases of out- side parties and the natural effect of the increasing twaffic on the railroads operate against a prolonged fall. At the opening this morning there was a live- By inquiry for Galena, Rock Island, Michigan guar- anteed, and Illinois Central, and all these stocks old at the best prices of yesterday afternoon. At the elose of the first board, the sellers caused the market to decline a fraction; in the afternoon there was very little business donc, and prices were gene- rally rather lower, closing dull at the decline. Rock Beland was hammered on advices of a judgment against the Missouri and Miscissippi Railroad @ompany, condemning the Rock Island bridge; the Company long ago appealed from this decision. Michigan guaranteed continues fo be bought in view of the probable re_ erganization of the Board of Direction and the re. eovery of the property from the slough into which # has fallen within the past year. New York Cen- tral continues to finctuate in harmony with the ru- mors from Albany. It seems to be generally un- derstood that if the House Toll bill passes the road will not be able to pay over five per cent per an- um in dividends, and would, in such a case, be dear i at 70 percent. The bids will be opened at two o'clock P. M., on Saturday, the 2lst of April. We have received the annual statement of the Winois Central, to be submitteyl to the shareholders in advance of the May meeting. We make room for a few paragraphs:— ‘The earnings of the road in 1859 were $2,114,445 98, and im 1858, $1,476,578 52. In the early part of the year the distress ip illinois, from the failure of the harvest of the two preceding years, cauged such inactivity in business that our trafiic Viminished even from the low figures of the preceding year. For the first eight months tho de- @rease was $85,091 23. In Sepiembor, aiter the wheat harvest, business improved, abd in the last two months fhe Indian corn crop coming opportunely, made up the @efiett, and gave an increage of $130,803 40 for the year, The lowest point in our affairs bas apparently passed, and the very satisfactory increase of loca! traffic during ix months ending 20h ult. of $324,299 41, confirms the estimate in the December circular of a gain of 333; per cent, or $700,000 the present@ear. The Chicago’Press of Wednesday, speaking of business at the West and crop prospects, say: ‘The weather during the week has been delightful, aud the farmers thronghoug the West have been improving the seagon in rowing their wheat, oats and barley, and in preparing the ground for the corn crop. Witn regard to spring ‘wheat, it is eetimated that fully two-thirds of the crop has been sown; and never before—at least for mai years—bas the weather been so favorable. The iutense heat of the gun has completely thawed out the soil, and rendered it thoroughly pliable, while the almost com plete absence of rain has enabled agricultarists to push their work through without hindrance or delay. The re- ag with regard to the winter wheat crop are contflist- . In those sections where the seed was planted deep it 1s almost universally good, while in places where it has been carelessly sown aud harrowed, it is generaliy poor, and wil! be a partial failure. The wabt rain is, however, beginning to create fears that the Western rivers will not hold out jong for the purposes of Davigation. The upper Mississippi, which is not yet open to St. Paul, is fast falling, and the merchants of St. Louis are beginning to fear that their trado with the upper country will be curtailed in consequence. The fame is true of the Ilinolg, and, in fact, to some extent, of all Western rivers. ve receipts and shipments of produce, live stock, &c., during the week, will be found in the following comparative table:— Ercccipts ——— ———Shipinenis -—— Prev's Smesek Past Prev. Although the barvest of grain to the acre cultivated in 1859 was less than balf of that gathered to the aere in 1654, tho extended area under cultivation has shewn a beter result ia the exports from Cuicago @an was anticipated, and demonstrates that tne working population and surfece cultivated have increased largely since 1556. In that year, with very abundant Barveste, and such high prices that every available busbel | of grain was brought out, 21,589,221 bushels were shipped from Chicago; the past year (1859,) after two bad har- veste, and © third which was oaly partial, thera were | 16,663,795 bushels sent to Chicago. Therefore itia believed ‘that the first year in which full uarveste of wheat and In- dian oorn are gathered will be followed by an export of 30,000,090 buabela.
