About ten o'clock the President, Bishop Potter, took his sseat, and the Convention proceeded with its regular Dusiness. The rt was adopted, ‘The committee to consider the re-ensetment of article 7 of the constitution, recommended instead an amend- ment, viz.:—That the’ clergy and laity shall vote as one body, and in case of electing a Bishop the two orders shail Vote separately, which was adop! Aresolution was offered by the Rev. Mr. Moore that “the yee Committee append to their report at the next Convention a statement of tho length of time that each station has been aided by the missionary fund. The Secretary moved that it be referred to the committee with power,-but it was finally laid on the table, a YZ _ Aresolution was offered in regard to that portion of the Bishop's address which concerned the size and division -of the diocess, consigning it toa comunittve of five to re- e rtat the next annual conyention, The resolution was ont. ‘Tho committee in the matter of that portion of the ad- dreas relating to the training school, offered resolutions of thanks to John Bard Esq., of Annandale for his magui cont donation to the school, and that the school be re- garded asa part of the diecess. The resolution concerning Bishop Onderdonk’s case, which for somo reason was not taken up at the beginning of the session, was now considered. It was moved that the resolution be laid on the table ; and the constitutional number, five, having demanded the ayes and noes on the question, the secretary called the roll and registered the votes. (At this stage of the proceedings the Right Reverend Lord Bishop Binney, of Nova Scotia, arrived, and was in- ‘troduced to the Convention by the President.) motion wus lost by the following yote:—Clerical vote—ayes, 33; noes, 138; lay yole—ayes, 62; noes, 71. ‘Total ayes, 85; total noes, 190. Judge Horan then arose to offer an amendment to the resolution, viz: That the remission of the sentence of the Right Rev, Bishop Onderdonk would be acceptable to this ‘Convention, provided the restriction’as to the exercise of ‘his official functions, which he submitted in hig letter to satan Potter, or such other restrictions as might be ad- visable by the House of Bishops were made, not incon. sistent with the terms of such letter. After otlering the resolution he delivered a short speech explaining its object. Hon, Lutigr Brapist arose to express his regret that ¢ this resolution, or any one of the kind hea been introduced, inasmuch as its discussion was highly wprofitable and tended to cause misc and distract the minds of the dliocess. Rey. Mr. MoVickar moved as an amendment or substi- tute, that the papers in the case of Bishop Onderdunk, viz. : his memorial to the House of Bishops for restora: tion, and an ante-dated letter to Bishop Potter from Bishop , Ondordenk, read before this Conyention, be presented by the Rt. The amendment of Dr. MeVickar was then voted on, ‘bat almost unanimously lost. ‘The consideration of Judge Hoffman's amendment was now again before the house. Hon, Saven B. Rveaurs offered an amendment to it, ‘the spirit of which was, that Bishop Onderdonk should, Defore action being taken on his case by the House of Bishops, deposit in the oflice of the secretary of the house his of resignation. ‘She Paxsipynt requested Mr Ruggles to withdraw the /. amendment, at tle same time explaining the trouble and mischief likely to arise hereafter from such a proceeding, ‘He algo alluded in a very touching manner ' the situ: Hon in which Bishop Onderdonk was placed, and ex- pressed his firm conyiction of the penitence of that pre- tate. At the conclusion of the Bishop's remarks a motion to ‘adjourn was put, to decide which he requested the mem- '* bers to express their vote by rising, when it became eyi- dent that the motion was lost. Dr. Viwron made some remarks concerning the amendstent and called for the question. In the midst of the cries of “Question” which followed, ‘a motion to adjourn sine die was made, but was not consi- dered, ‘The Bisnor dectared that the Hon. Sunuel B. Ruggles’ | » amendment was before the house, although some main- stained that. Mr. Ruggles bimself had withdraw it. On ‘vote it was lost. The amendment to strike out the words ‘not incon- ‘sistent with the terms of such letter,” in Judge Hoffman's , ? amendment, was then considered, A substitute to the whole matter, viz:—That remission of the sentence of Bishop Onderdonk would be acceptable ‘to this Convention on such terms as would not interfere with the actual administration of the jurisdiction of this / » -diocess, was offered, but afterwards withdrawn.) Judge Horrman haying accepted the amendment to his amendment, it was now put to yote and carried. The amended resolution is as foliows:—That the remis- sion of the sentence of Bishop Onderdonk would be ac- ) « ceptable to this Convention, provided the restrictions as to the exercise of his official functions, which he submitted in his letter to Bishop Potter, or such other restrictions as might be advisable by the House of Bishops, were made.” it was then moved that the secretary convey to the House of Bishops information of what had taken place in regard to Bishop Onderdonk. His good example was imitated by many others, aud pledges were also made of contributions to supply the deficit in the missionary fund, ‘The Secretary opened a subscription list, and those who desired, advanced and made their contributions. When the business: of receiving the contributions was finished, the bishop announced that the deficiency in the fund could now be made up.
