a LL posed to any abatement of the abolition pro- gramme of W. H. Seward. Nor will there be any fu-ion with the Americans while Seward stands iu the way. He mast be set aside by the republicans or he will carry the party to the Dotto. That is the whole case in a nut shell. Tux Lave American Srate Counctt at Gunn- va—Our Turee Parry State Convenrions, &c.—The American State Conncil at Geneva, in view of their rade rebuff ‘y the ungallant repub- Jicans last year, could not stomach the proposi- tion to go up the eame way to Syracase this fall to court the amiles of Thurlow Weed. Such a course would be discreditable to a young lady after having been in her first advances ao rough- ‘Ty repuleed by her unappreciative lover. And so the American party, ia council at Geneva, re- solved that the offended damsel ehould stand back this time upon her dignity and await an offer from the other ride. Accordingly, the 21st of September was named as the day for the American State Convention for nominating a State ticket, and Utica as the place. Thus, th:n, stands our New York achedule o State Conventions. The repudlicans meet at Syra- Cuse on the 7th of September; the democracy at the same place on the 14th of September, and the Americans at Utica on the 21st of Septem- ‘ber. Thus it will be seen that Miss Know No- thing this time has two strings to her bow, and that should the republicans refuse to make her affiberal offer, she will still be free to listen to the advances of the desperate democracy. This arrangement will start Thurlow Weed upon his travels. It must be attended to. If, therefore he should be seen, a few days hence, cheek by jowl with Danie! Ul'moan, in this city, or with Gen, Gustavus Adolphus Scroggs in Buffalo, anybody can unders!and what is going on. We have no idea thut Weed will hazard a persoval confer- ence with Erastus Brooks. His price is too high; and besides, as it bas been given out that Eras tus Jately decla the republican party “the damnedest, meanest party this side of hell,” Thurlow could not hove to do much in that quar- ter in behalf of @ ratrimonial alliance. Meantima let the furtorn democracy prepare to take the field againss W. H. Seward, and our anxious Know Nothing coquette may be per- suaded to “ cut him dead,” and whistle his party down the wind.
