2 THE ATLANSIC TELEGRAPH. The Four Hundred Messages Sent Through the Cable. Seven Columns of Hard Pacts for the Dises- lion of Seeptics, Messages of Queen Victoria and President Buchanan Despatches of the Collision of the Steam- ers Europa and Arabia Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars Saved by the Cable to the British Goverament. | Conversations of the Biectricians | Tbrough the Conductor. Tt is almost uncecessary to urge apon our readers the ‘Amportance of the matter to which we devote go large & Portion of our space today = The ‘our bunired messages ‘which we publiah below wore verified under oath, as may ‘be seen from the annexed affidavits, which were mats ‘befere the United States Consu! at London. in these messages we have a complete history of the cable—s history of which it 1s iteclf the nerrator—from the day ‘on which it began to epeak inteiliginly up to that oa woich it becamesilent. There is n9 doubt that thefailure of the | Line now down was owing to tho bungling sod mis management of both the engineers and electricians of the company who bac charge of it; for it wasowing to their negligence in the frst piace that the defects were produced in the insulation. Among the large number of messages will be found those Of the Queen and of tbe President, the private despatches: of the British government countermancing the order forthe shipment of troops from Halifax and Montreal to India, the messages between the directors of the compacy in] New York and those in London, and the conversations be tween the electricians in the stations at frintty Bay aod Valentia. In fact these messages were necessary to com plete the history of the cable now down, and their impor. tance can hardly be over catimated when regarded as evidence of the practicability of the undertaking.
