Tt is true there bad been organized, several months pre- ‘viously from the corps of Sappers and Miners, a company Bot ready for inspection, which subsequently paraded. ‘The apnual inspection is the military test of the efficien- ey of a regiment, and the absurdity of keepiag up such a Yegiment was so apparent that an order was issued by the Commander. in Chief to consolidate it with the Tenth regi- ment, which had also falien below the proper standard, Dut bad inspected a much greater number present on pa- Fade than the Twelfth regiment, This consolidation should have built ap a good regiment; Dut encouraged by their cashiered Colonel and bis fac: ious officers, instead of submitting to this judicious and wecessary measure, they have openly disobeyed the or- ders of the Commanider-in-Chief, and not content with that, have held meetings to denounce and ingult him, and mbuse and slander their superior officers. The body had been in the water some two weeks or more, and consequently was uch disfigured. Deceased was dressed in a black clown coat, white linen pants and heavy boots.
