Marching down Grand street to the Bowery, thence along (hatham street to tho City Hull, wuere they wero reviewed by Mayor Tiemann, who expressed timsel’ highly pleased ai their appearance, and, it is said, mised to Visit them at Kim Park during the afternoon. Boey tuen proceeded along Broadway—the numero: and costly banners displayed by each society standing our in boto relief aiong the immense line of procession, and th» various bands playing marttal airs, formed quite an Impos- ing ep:ctacie, alike pleasing to the ear and gratifying to tne eye. Proceeding to the foot of Spring street, they em- barked on a steamboat aud barges prepared for them, and at two o'clock landed at Striker’s Ba; In spite of the cloudy dawn, thousands besieged tho Second and Third avenue cars; and, although the Third Aveuus Railroad Company put on’ extra cars—many of -them drawn by four horses, and crowded to a most un- Comioitable exieat—yet mauy were compelied to walk; and the roads—cepeciaily across the uneven margin of the Row revervoir in the Central Park—presented a most ani- mated appearance; and for hours a continuous columu, fed by the cars, arriving at short intervals, poured into the grounds. Op arriving atthe Park the different societies scattered. themreives, each selecting a shady clump of tries under which hey bivouacked, tapped their barrels of lager, and ave.themeelver up to the unfeigned enjoyment of the our. lee soeieties, aome fifteen in number, at. intervals gang their favorite gleea. The Turovereia went through may cifficult evolutions, and surpr sed the crowd by their athletic and daring performances. The various bands etationed at different parts of the grounds played the popular dance uirs of the day, to which the company Kopt tine on the light fantastic toe, the ladies being divest- ed of their bata and shawls, and seeming to enjoy the op- Portanity for @ dance immensely. Tho arrival from Califorais this morning, with $1,529,925 ia g04 on freight, restores the bank reserve to the point at which it stood a week ago, and enables the banks to begin businves this week with a rising average. From present Sppearances it is not likely that much specia will be taken from bank before the end of the week. The reduction in ‘he discounta is also a favorable feature, As we have already bad occasion to explain, more than once, the largo call loans which the banks mado this spring on the pledge of commercial paper have enabled them to curtail seven millions of dollars without causing any great inconvenience in commercial cirgles; instead of re- fusing to discount for their caste vera, which was tho old method of contracting, the bauks, whan they wanted to curtail, simply called in their demand loang, and the com- mercial paper which they held as scgurity was thrown into the market in consequence. The discount brokers and private money lenders havo thus far showa ample Capacity to absorb the increased offerings of paper, and latverly rates bave tended toward increased ease; sill, tn ‘View of the uneasiness still prevailing in certain circles, end of the uncertainties of the war in Europe, the banks will do well to continue their present policy a fow days longer. If they can, without doing mischief, got their diacount line down to $120,000,000, and still hoid their Present stock of government fives and Treasury loan, they will be all tho better able to supply the necessities of the West when the time comos for the crop to be moved. Money is, if anything, a shade easier to-day; still the standard rate for call loans is 63% a 6, and for good paper 7 a 9 per cent, secording to dato and quality. The discount brokers ro- port a acarcity of new paper; their wants are wholly supplied from the banks. Exchange on Europe continues extremely dull, without, however, any change of rates: ‘We continue to quote bankers’ storling, 11034 a 3 for 6) day bilis, and 1105 a % for sight bills; francs, §.114¢ for 60 days, and 6.634 for sight. The business for the Boston steamer to-morrow is very light; ahe will take very little specie from here. The stock market this morning, as was expected, was favorably influenced by the news of the railway setile- mont and the gevoral recovery of the financial world from the war paaic. There were a largo number of orders for stocks in the board—an event which, latterly, hus be- come quite unusual. State stocks were in good demand, and prices wore bighor. Missouris, which have been sold short to an unusual taveer, advanced two per cent, and were strong at the advance; Virginias were also nigner A subsidence of the alarm caused by tho specio shipments must be favorable to these securities, There wag no business doue in railway bonds except in Eries which scold at the lowest quotations. On tho leading railway stocks there was a spirited con- test between the bulls and boars; the latter, who con: stitute nine-tenths of the operators at the board, resisted the recovery of prices with remarkablo tenacity and bold- ness. The leading atocks of the day were Central, Read- ing, Michigan Southern guaranteed, and Rock Island; the brokers had orders to buy all of them, and on the call ail advanced a fraction, but were quickly cauged to react by tho free offerings by the bears, The latter hay? been embarrassed for como days by the scarcity of cash stock; the domand which bas sprung up since the war panic has begun to wear oil, aud the railway settle, ment that has been effected, adda to their difficulties Should avy fresh digester operate prejudicially on the market, the seilers may be enabled to cover their coa- tracts without lose; but in the absence of untoward acci- dents, the very demand for stock which their sales insure is calculated to assiat an upward movement—while, fa (ha meantime, their efforts to depress prices enable outside Doyers to obtain cheap stocks, Ia the afternoon stocks were dull, and prices were a shade lower.
