THE RE-CNION OF THE DEMOCRATIC PACTIONS. Forte bave for some time been making to re-unite the democratic party of this county, and at a meeting of the Committee of Conference appointed at @ previous meet- ing of prominent democrats, held on Wednesday evening, a basis of union was agreed upon, of which the following are the leading points, as embraced in a series of resolu tions The Bradley and Vanderbilt County Committees and the City Committee to unite in one call a fe election, to be held on the 20th January, 1859, three and eight o'clock P, M., for the pn Rang Pee sam 1. A city committee, to Consist of three from each ward; 2. .\ county committee, to consist of one from each ward and town; and 3. To elect three delegates from eacs ward and town to a County Convention w convene at Monta- gue Hall,on the 10th of February, for the purpose and With power to reorganize the Standing Committees of the democratic party of the county. The city committee is to appoint one inspector for each ward, and the two county committees to appoint one inspector each in every ward and town, who, together with the democratic and Supervisors shall constitute a Board of Inspectors of Election for the primaries in their we wards and towns. A poll clerk ie to be appointed by the Inspectors of each ward, whose duty it will be to make a return un- der oath of the result of “the Cea question of voting direct for the of candidates, instead of Lhe present mode of them by conventions, is to be submitted to the democratic voters at the next pri- nuary election. A resolution requesting the members of the present committees to refrain from having their names used as candidates at the next primary clection was re- jected, as was also a resolution Kay B Aldermen, ‘&e., 10 substituls inspectors. Mf Ae the new year approaches the bolicf in a genera! re vival Of speculation does not make much progress. she purchases for the rise are for the account of one or two leading operators, whose following is at prosent quite small. The bulk of the street jobbers are governed by the reports of the earnings of the various roads, and are rather disposed to sel! than to buy; and though, as has been the case very frequently within the past sixty days, the very aules of these speculators will, by their exces rive volume, keep the market steady, and even at times stimulate a small advance, it & obvious that while theit offerings of stock are large there cam be no movement which will induce the public to come in, The obstacle in the way of & rise are indecd formidable, We have frequently hat cocas.on to allude to the distrust which the dieingenu coe reports of leading rallways—euach as the New York Centrai—bave created in the public mind, This is only one of the difficultice to be surmounted by the partivans af arise. The general business of the roade was nover less Profitable than it i at present. Family Marketing for New Year's Day. The markets do not present as lively an appearance on New Year’s a8 on Christmas week, nor do the poultry dealers expect to do as large a business. The retail trade is more generally distributed, and much of the money spent of the more solid comforts of life for Christmas is appropriated for its luxuries in New Year's week. While, therefore, the demand for poultry and game falls off, the fruit dealers, the confectioners and the bakers reap a rich harvest trom the universal demand for their more costly ‘wares for the New Year's tables. The bustle, thronging and crowding noticed in the gene- ral markets last week was not so apparent yesterday, atthongh the trade to-day promises to be very goed. ‘There is 1 flue assortment of poultry on hand, and in view of the near approach of New Year's Day, it is re markably cheap.
