AFFAIRS IN MEXICO. Our City of Meesbon Cormeapentionce. Manco, Nov. 1, 1658. We Departure of Mr Forsyth from the Capital—Studtied from the Present Parties, d., dv. Oo the 16th ult. Mr. Forsyth gave notice to the Mexican government that on the 20th he would be ready to take hue departure from here with his family, and asked for Bre road escort to protect him from the robbers, which Michigan Central 8 per Cont, 1869. ad already been promised, On the 17tb he received a veply—brought to him by the Chief of Police—that the escort would be ready for him on the 20th, and that that escort should consist of a corporal and two soldiers, to be sweated on the box of bis diligence. Your readers who do not know this country may pot see the insult in this ten- dered escort therefore let me explain, In ordinary times Afteen borsemen, with lances, muskets and pistols, are given to travellers; but owing to the present ingecurity that mamber should be doubled. On the arrival of Mr. Otway, ibe present British Minister,an escort of fifty horsemen, well armed, were given to him. The ingult of offering three ragamoafiing, with muskets alone, when there are known to be bands of thirty robbers on the road, is therefore most clear, Mr. Forsyth very properly declined the tendered escort, and made up one of hie countrymen, on whom he eould rely for protection. The change in hit arrange- aeents necessarily cansed some delay, but he managed to roake it but one day more, and he prepared for departure on the 2iet. The government watched with jealousy his movements, and seem to have determined on giving him anneyance Wo the last. The night before the departure bie guards all around the hotel 0 depart. Guards were stationed en the houses on either side, al 11 through the different eorrniors, and at the front door, and ai the gate in the rear. What a sight! Innocent lodgers in the hotel and stroliers in the strects were attracted by this display of armed force, and the inguiry ran through diferent little Knots of people: What is the matter?” “What's up?” “le there a criminal in the house’ & To this the only reply was, ‘the Am 2 Minister is going off.” The he Chief of Police threw whieh the diligences he roof of the hotel, Chyef of Police swaggered about, and I think there were ‘but few whe looked upon the scene bat thought the Ame. viean Minister was to be thrown in prison. This continued from nine in the evening until near twelve o'clock. The eause of all thie display war Whe circumstance that a man whe feil under one of the forced loan decrees had taken wefuge in the United States Legation. He had there not Deen molested, and now that Mr. Forsyth was about to de. part, the poor mercenary wretch had tried to get off with im, and the government seized the opportu ty to scan- dalize the representative of the United States. I cannot way if Mr. Forsyth had seriously compromised himself in a man’s affairs, but if he had, that should bave been a matter of complaint for thie government to make to the government at Washington, ant not cauce for insult to the representative of Mie United States. 1 am told that the Chief of Police had orders that if his — did not to seve him, pay Op a large sum of money even Mf he were on the arm of the American Minister. How- ever, this resort was saved by the poor map paying 00—$10,000 more than had been asked of him in the aserning of the same day—and at two o'clock A. M. the sbhigences started, bristling at every window and from the boxer above with Sharp's rifles und double barreled gvns. What American, who saw that sight, or who that reads an account of it, can wish to see another American representative exposed to such insults, apd be forced to fight his way out of a country that dehghts tn heaping Wrong and insult upon every American? Mr. Forsyth, as ® mab, must take care of bimsclf, but as the representa- tive of the United States he cannot be outraged and in- snked without outraging and insulting the flag be re! we sents. He har gone from here, and now let me glance hie course on the highway, where he takes to his feet to Fepel the banditti the government Cannot restrain During the firet day, at about 10 A. M., robbers ap peared on the road, a short distance beyond Rio Frio ‘The diligences were at once ordered to stop, and Mr. For #yth and the male portion of his took to their feet he robbers we: and appeared deter mined to hold the her object. Mr. Forsyth’s party for defence, and the robbers, J suppose, thi, fired upon them, and « fire wae p ing ruptly returned from the Americ party. | With thie the robbers rau, and the, d sumed their course and srriv Belle combat no one wae Killed From Poebla to Or safety, but whether re sifely in} Crny we sappos: L that i* not yet known, a, the gentleman who paid with Mr. Forsyth, was » the government here, ted from hum. the country hak not materially Vidaurri, for the time being, is silent: in fact, we do not know bere exactly where he is. UNUSUAL CHEAPNPSS OF POULTRY--LOWER PRICES FOR MEAT, RTC. ETC. The unusna? cheapness of poultry, and especially of that greatest and most delicious of the gallinaceous spe- cies, the tarkey, is the feature of our market report to day. For twenty years previously, according to old mar ket men and provision dealers, poultry has not been a cheap 9s for the Inst few days. Fine dry pickod turkies Were felling yesterday in market for 1c. per pound, while the inferior gorts could be had for 8c. and even Te. Large lots of chickens were sold for Se. and 6c, per pound, and ini some instances they were retailed at that price. Ducks, but a short time ago selling for 1c. and 18e. per pound, were offered yesterday without buyers for 100. and 12c. Strangely enough, geese, which always rates lowest among poultry, now command as high a price as the best turkies. ‘This state of things cannot last long. Farmers will stop | killing their poultry and wil! save them for the holidays, | when, no doubt, they will be high enough, It would be , therefore, for all who like good turkies and chickens ean cheaply. of the cheapness of ify their tastes while the Meat is down, in consequenc poul- try.
