In our estimation there are several gentlemen in the Board of Direc- tion who are well suited for this position—among others Mr. Oliphant and Mr. Joseph Riggs, men of wealth, energy and active intelligence, particularly well suited to the emergency; and this, with a bold and decided co-operation among all the parties inte- rested, a reasonable hope may be entertained in the future prosperity of the company. Tvespay, Feb. 9—6 P.M. There was in reality a bully market today. Buy- ers are abundant, full of confidence, and take hold with a great deal of spirit. The transactions to-day were unusually large, at advancing prices through- out. The easy money market is teHing with mach effect on quotations for stocks, and specniation is perfectly rampant. The Panama Railroad Company is doing a better Duriness than ever. The steamship Northern Light is advertised to leave this port for Aspinwall on the 10th to connect with the Orizaba at Panama. ‘These two steamers Lelong to opposition lines. The new or bogus Transit Company, got up by White, winess. inst., Morgan & Co., will, it understood, start a boat from this port’on the 9th or 10th of March, to meet the Orizaba, which is a continuation of their line for the present on the Pacific side. This company will probably start the Quaker City at the appointed time, and the competition on this «ide will, it is supposed be between that steamer and the Northern Light. This is one of the theories of the street regarding the new line. No one eupposes for a moment that # coulition has been formed between the Vanderbilt and Morgan forces, but we know enough about these financiers und speculators to not be surprised at anything that may turn up.
