The weather in Great Britain has Continued favorable for barvest operations, and with the exception of some late localities in the north of Scotland ‘and Ireland, the grain crops bave been secured. Five Ambassadors are there of the first rani; those of the three great Powers will each give ‘& grand ball, and each will be compelled to erect a ball room for that express purpose. The French bad there bul a native detachment, one battalion of the 45th regiment, and « equadrom of Chasseurs @’ Afrique. The natives were put forward in advance, and the regulars remained iu concealment. The Kabyles Periority of discipline and arms ou the side of the French, the great disparity of numbers rendered the contest Severe, and result, for a time, doubtfal, until the Chasseurs d'Afrique charged finally, with great effect, and the enemy fled. Money bad been in active demand, principally with a view to be provided against circumstances should the rate of discount be advanced this week. The actual pres sure Was not, however, so severe, practically, as in ap- prebension. Rates were uniformly at the maximum in Lombard street, while tho applications at the bark were numerous. On the stock exchange the inquiry had been active. Foreign securities had been all heavy, and moet of them further de- clined. Railway shares bad fiuctuated; but the trans- actions bad not been numerous. The Sutsse journal announces that the Federal Council of Switzerland had replied to the note presented to it by the Prussian representative, M. de Sydow, in reference to Neufchatel, in which note the Prussian government re- served its right of sovereignty over the ton. In re- ply, the Federal Councii declares that it cannot admit the rigbt cimimed by Prussia, for the reasvos already = pressed m the w negative reply of the Federal Directory the Ist and 6th of March, 1848; and tbe Gana expretes regret that events, in every way deplorable, should have given a motive for the revewal of th eck. According to the same journal, M. = Sydow had an ia terview with M. Stomptli, President of the Federal Coun- cil, from whom be demanded that the prisoners spould be treated wits kindness, and that the judicial inqairy and trial should not be too hastily conducted, as such a course might complicate still more the diplomatic relations of Prussia with the Confederation, and ot create fresh difficulties. M. Stompti replied that Swithzerlana was the last country to which such observations ought to be Aderessed, since its legisiation with respect to political offences aid crimes was tho least severe that existed. Justice, he added, should take its course, and the Confe Geration was tirmly determined to reject all diplomatic intervention, Markets.
