Yellow fever bas been on Governor's Island for two weeks past, and eight deaths have occurred up to yester- day. There are in all about 680 recruits of all kinds at this depot, the majority of whom are encamped at Fort Columbus, the Lighest point of the island, where as yet no disease has made its appearanze At Fort William, however, on the westera side of the island, they bave not been so lucky. A man employed as a cook first took sick, with what was thought ’o be typhus fever, aud died. A man and woman employed with him in the kitchen next were ta- ken sick and also died, but the succeeding case recovered. The fever then attacked the quarters of the music boys, whose rooms are immediately over the kitchea. It is said the marks of Briti#h bayonets and pikes are still discernible where they rested against the granite columns of the doorway. From the probability that misstatements may appear im the New York journals concerning an accident that bappened on the Great South Bay, nearly opposite this village, yesterday, about noon, we deem it advisable to give a correct account of the aifair. A party consisting of Capt. Stansbury Funk, his wite ape aia, about eight years old; Mr. Carman Harriot, two chidren, one about three years, and the other six, an¢ purse; Mrs. John Northop and one child about six years old; Mrs. Henry Servo, Mr. Warren Harriot’s iwo ebildrev, about eight aud ten years old, reepectively: ason of Mr. Hampton Howell, aged eight years: and @ son of Edw. About hall-past two o'clock yesterday morning a fre was discovered in the livery etable kept by James MoGuire, at No. 126 Macdougal street. The alarm was given, when the firemen promptly responded, but from the intammabie nature of the premises they were unable to rubdve the dames before the building was consumed.
