MONEY MARKET. Monpay, April 28—6 P. M. There was an astive, buoyant market this morning, nod at the close all the leading stocks were in de- mand. At the first board Tennessee 6’s advanced 14 per cet; !liinoia Central bonds, 1{; Delaware and Hadson, 4; Cumber'and, %; New York Central Railroad, %; Erie, %{; Wisconsin Lake Shore, %; Hudaon Railroxd, %; Mish‘gen Central, {; Cleveland and Pittsburg, 1; Cleveland and Toledo, %. The improvement was gene- ral, and the transactions ware large in all the prominent speculative stocks, In Cleveland and Toledo there was a ‘very active movement. The demand was active from the openirg to the close. The receipts of the company for this month, up to the 28th imazt, amount to $136,000, ‘The bi,hest estimate for the whole month. was $120,000, ‘The total for the month will not vary muob from $150,000, showing an increase in the estimate of $30,000. A bot of 1, 000 shares was taken for permanent in?¥giment o-¢ay, aod the largest holders are mot disposed to’ sell We koow of large lots that 90 per cont wonld not out. There are only two regular dividend p fog raliroad stocks on this market eeiling tower than Cleveland end Toledo, and they are rapidly appre ciating. The important connections just made with the Cleveland and Toledo road, both at the eastern and west- ern encs, have added largely to the income of ths com- pany, aa the recent returns shew. The Wabash Valley road bas opened a sestion of couatry two hundred miles in extent, the through travel of which comes over the Cleveland and Teledo. The Cleveland and Pittsburg, con. neeting at this end, bas opened new and important sources of revenue; and as these new sources of supply extend into the interior they muat become feeders to an extent greater than antcipated by the most sanguine friend of the Cleveland an: Toledo line. Cleveland and Pittsburg is moving up gradually, but steadily. It was in demand to dsy, and oosed firm at our quotations. Erie was not active, but the improvement was well msin- tained. ew York Centra! aold toa modera’e extent at the advance reported. Reading was steady, and closed with an upward tendency. [linois Central bonds closed firm at 88 per cent, with large sales for cash. The stock was in demand, but the views of holders were sbove those of buyers, and there were no sales at the frst board, after the adjournment of the board, the following sales of bonds and stocks were made at auction by A. The returns for April, both feom the road end from the Land Office, will be of a very favorable charecter. The g:oss earnings and the sales of lacd will be large. Michigan Southern closed this afternoon at 083, per cent, with a small sale of tenshares. Cleveland and Pittsburg sold at 68 per cent, buyer 60 days, and that Maped for a large lot, without sales. There was a little stringency in the money market to-day. Call loans were moved actively, and money was in demand. The steady reduction in discounts is caloulated to give greater confi. dence without causing any stringency in the money market. As the sonson aivances 90d business aybsides, the demand upon the banks becomes leas, and with @ amaller aggregate of !oans the supply of capital is likely to be greater. ‘he banks will find it difficult to keep up 0 line of diseounte as large as they may desire or require. ‘The banking capital of this city is now several millions greater than at this time last year, and it must be active- ly employed in some way. If business does not offer in sufficient quantities, loans must be made om atocks. We understand that the Pac'fic Mail Steamship Com- pany last week quietly pa‘d off one balf of its bonds, amounting to $150,000, and that it will probably antici- pate the payment of the remaining half early in May, simultaneously wiih the payment of its semi-annual divt- @ecd. The redemption of these bonds places the company entirely out of debt, and if, as stated, it be trae that the company still hes a cash surplus of $400,000, and large supply of cos! and stores in the Pasific valued at upwards of $200,000, snd a'} pald fer ont of the profits of the present fiscal year ending May 1, we see no reason why this company should not soon resume ita old posi- tion amongst the best paying corporations in the country. Milscellancous and Disasters, Commenparcz BxteRPaise—The superior yacht schr N Stet- 20, 200 tons register, owned by Fdgar Sprague, Esq, of this clty, and chartered by William Petit, J B Sardy, and EH Jaoot, Begs, proceeded to sea on Saturday last, bound on a voyage as far Kast as the Western Islards. She has been fitted fa the most ample manter, provided with a double crew of selected officers and men, with Ingervoll’s patent life boats: ex:ra epare, rigging, sails, provisions, and all meccassry apps ratus to save life and property, with orders to cruise on the North Atlantic ebout the trackof vessels bound between the United States and Burope, in 8 more Soutzern latitude than explored by the expeditions despatched by our government and that of Great Britain, in search of the steamer Pacific, and which did not come acrosa several abandoned and disabled ships, which were by other reports floating about at that time in a more Southern track, where it isnot impossible the missing steamer may also be drifieg in @ Uke concition, Therefore, may not some faint hope be yet entertained of ber being heard from by this expecition, as also some other long missing ves. eels. If not successful in saving Jife, this enterprise may at least render som+ assistance in saving property. Bbe will be absent about eight weeks, and we hope her retura may bring Joy to many aching hearts. ‘The business of coppering, caulking and otherwise repairing vessels in tbe harbor {s still quite brisk; as an evidence of ‘which the larger sect‘onal cock at the foct of Pike street, MR+ Bun, are re one Dg about 300 and the- other 500 ater. The two are inline of ea. other, and although the dcok ap) raile vacant ath wart- ships, tt le ‘nearly Aled lengthwise. ‘The epectacie is net 80 rare as itis curious tive.
