Pazasvar Daranturnr, Dec. 1, 1835. the United States that this Department will pur- chase to the amount of $1,500 000 of said at any time when the same may be offered priorto the Ist day of June next, and will pay therefor the following prices, to wit: For stock of the loan of 1342, a premium of ten per cent; for stock of the loans of 1647 and 1848, a premium of sixteen per cent.; for stock issued under the act ef 1850, commonly called Texas-in- demnity stock, 2 premium of six per cent.; and for stock of the loan of 1816, redeemable on the 12th November, 1546, if received at the Treasaty prior to the Ist day of January next, a premium of 2% per cent.; if received between the Ist Jan- Uary and the Jist of March next, a premium of 2 per cent ; and if received after the 3ist of March and prior to said Ist of June next, a premium éf 1 per cent. Interest will also be allowed on sald stocks the rates specified in the eertlficates, from the 1: July last, if assigned with the principal of the certificates received prior to the Ist of January next. After that date the interest will be allowed in addition to the premium from Ist of January the date of their recelpt. In both cases one day’s interest will be allowed in addition for the money to reach the seller. Certificates transmitted to this Department un- der the present notice should be duly assigned to the United States (with the current half year’s in- terest, if sent prior to the Ist of Januery next) by the party entitled to receive the purchase money. ORDNANCE OFFICE, Wasaineton, April 23, 1956 ROPOSALS ARE INVITED FROM THE Powder Manufacturers of the country for fur- nishing Five Thousand Barre's of i or any portion of that quantity not less then one thousand barrels. Four-fifths of the Powder to be furnished must be non Powder, and one- ufth Musket Powder; and the whole amount that may be ordered must be delivered at the harbor of New York by the Ist of August, 1356, and not sooner than the 20th July, 1856. Contracts will be eatered into only with those who can give sat- isfactory assurance of their ability to manufacture Powder of the quality required for Government use. The proportions of the ingredients of Powder for the military service are 75 parts of nitre, 15 parts of charcoal, and 10 parts of sulphur. The Powder must be packed in barrels of one hundred pounds each ; the barrels to be made of well-seasoned white-oak, and hooped with hickory or cedar — (the latter preferable) de- prived of their bark; the hoops to cover two- thirds of the barrel, and to be secured by copper instead of a bung on the side, a screw hoie ene and a half inch diameter must be made in the head of the barrel, and closed by a wood screw with an octagonal head, not projecting beyond the ends of the staves, with a washer under {t of thia olution of bees- wax in spirits rper piece of cloth gined over the head of the screw plug.
