Miberality of the Cuban Government—Christian Magna- nimity of the Archbishop of Cuba—Death of a Slave Trader Religious Festivals—Aironatics~ Naval Movements, The iliiderality of the government of this island hes never been more fully exemplified than in its condust in relation to the following ci-cumstance:—The failure o the eager creps in Louisiana has rendered certain inteill- gent planters of that 8'ate desirous of obtaining a change of seed; and with this view, some four or fivs months since, ar orcer was sent to a mercantile house of this eity to sh'p to Mew Orleans some four or five thousand gogar canes suitable for seed. These canes, packed in Logsheads, were accordingly shipped from Ceidomas- Move recently a gentleman from Attakapas arclyed here’ proceeded to Matanmas, chartered a small vessel of ab ut a hundred tows burthen, purchased» anantity of canes and ebipped them on board of her for New Orleans. Some other parties at Matarzas, desirous ot following bia ox- ample, yet more recently purchased a quantity of canes, and were about to ship them, when they wore iafrmad by the authorities that au ordor had been received for- bidding the further shipment of sugar canes; aad conss- quentiy they were not permitted to ship those they hat purchased. Was ever such sheer bru‘ality before heard oft. If cannot be a fear that the quantity of canes that might have been shipped would matertally lessen the crop of thia island caused this order, beseuse sufficiont eaxes to plant the whole State of Louisiana migat be taken away without decreasing the crop fifty hog-heads. No; it isa fear that the Louisiana planter may, by hie superfor skill and energy, successfully compete with the Cuban planters in the production of their chief staplo, sugar.
