There was quite a large atendanse of property holders, and much interest was manifested, pro and con, on the subject. Messrs. Jas. B. Dixon, Jos. More than a thousand bexes ball-cartridges were landed, and uncer the regulations of tbis port, stored in the magazine of the fort; but it being discovered that the boxes were nailed with on insteaa of eopper nails, the View Governor cr- dered them to be stored at euch a distance from the city as not to endanger its safety, and Major Helm, with his charactoriatic promptness, chartered s vessel and placed on board some 160 tons of ammunition, which sailed this morning for New York. A peep into the hold of this vessel exhibiis a com- fusion painful and curious—paioful, because of the destruction of property—curiour, because you ree cannon, pork im barzels and pork out of barrels, mus- kets, rifles, sabres, beef, brire, clothing, tents, wagons, shells, boxes and kegs of powder, and indeed every article of clothing, provision, and instrument of death thrown together, without regard to stowage or order; barre's and boxes crushed to pieces, some wet, poe Oy some deweged, and some in good order. The ‘cargo, however, is now nearly discharged, some twenty hands and three or four lighters having been enguged at it for some fitteen days. Tne American Consul has deen on board early and late urging on the work, and using every effort to rave as much of the cargo as possible. It is estimated that there murt be some 500 tons in ali, and that the cargo could not have cont less than $160,000. ‘All who have visi‘ed the veesel say the officer in com- mand dererves great credit for getting this vessel into port at all.
