The shipment of specie by the steamship Atlan tie from this port to. morrew, (Jaturday ) is estimated at about one million of dollars. It will not vary materially from that Ggure. Considerable anxiety is felt relative to the next beak ret ‘The amount of specie on hand, according to the returns of last week, was $10,630,617. The returns for thin week will probably show an increase of about s million of dollars. This will increase the aggre- gate far above the average. The reveipta of guoi® are gradually decreasing, but with ample supphes of moat articles on hand, and the existence ef only a mode- rate inquiry, chiefly for seasonable fabrics, which loca jobbers and some country merchanta are in need of. Prices are without an improving tendency, and factors sre well inclined to mest the views of buyers, except where these ciaim too heavy concessions in prices; to grant which owners are, at present, neither able nor will- ing, because, by Zoing so, they would only help to ruin themselves. Brown and bleached sheetings and shirtings are in pretty fair demand, and rule firm. Cotton flannels and jeans are selling in lotr, at former quotations, Denims are moderately active and steady. We notice less doing indrill, which are languid im price. There exists a good inquiry for duck, atfullrates, the transactions in ging. hams are tolerably large, and indicate no aitera- tiom in value. Nothing new can be noticed ta lawes or nanking, Osnaburgs are plenty and heavy, at eld prices. Prinving cloths and prints are in rather slack request, though unchanged in price: Ftripes and ticks are more sought after and command previous quotations, readily. Woollen productions re: main about the ssme. The stocks are heavy for the sea son, and as owners are anxious sellers, buyers have tho advantage in every trarssetion. This, however, does pot cecasion much activity in the business. Choice makes of blanketa are saleable and steady. Cassimeros ‘and cloths, o: desirable styles, are in rather better de. mand but are otherwise unaltered. Dosskins and flan- nels appar dall and heavy. Jeans and linceys are spar- ingly purchased at former figures. Mousiia dela:nes ae in moderate request and firm. Yatinets are brisker, but not dearer. Shawls are more cought after, but at slight. ly reduced quptations. Select mazes of tweeds are in fair demand at steady rates. Foreign manufsctures are less active and very much depressed. The auction sales, which have been so nus merous and extensive this season, have supplied moat of the wants of dealers, who are ‘slowly purchasing what- ever they need to complete their assortments, or to fill the orders of their customers, as they refuse to pay ask- ing prices, excepting where they cannot avoid doing 60. This occasions great. dulness and irregularity in the ‘trade privately. Choice continental are the most no. ticed and “bring the fairest prices British fabrics at- ‘tract less attention and are, if anything of the kind be posrible, declining. The sccounts from the other side of the Atlantic are not of an encoursging nature, and they help to depress the business here. Meauwhi'e, it ie apparent that the imports are on the decrease, and if our merchants can free themeelves from their pre- sent difficulties, by care.and moderation they may bring about a reaction which cannot Wut prove beneficial to all. ‘The Cincinnati Gazetle of Wednesday, the 11th inst., bas the following review of Gnancial matters in that city:— Money matters are in an extreme'y rene Othe dition—more so, we believe, than has been expe: ienced entirely to extend accommodations, and this hes been from veocessity, and not from sny want of conidence wi Jes the seal! note lew and the jndiasafree bus a large amount of the active means o! ‘bankers is ocked up. were Free bank currency has been almost entirely with. drawn, avd what little is still in the market osu neither havereet ons ts poperia fiat ba poe dent; ve put per as fast as or 4 Dut this, compared ith our wants, ec Pir the bucket. for currency.
