S DRAPER OFFERS FOR SALE $300,000 CONVERTI- 'q blo seven per cent bonds of the Western Vermont Railroad Company, maturingin New York in 1862, and se- cured by a mortgage on the whole property and income of the road. They bear coupons for interest, payable Ist March and Ist September, and are, at the Rloges of the holder, convertible at any time before 1860 into the eapi- tal stock of the company, ‘The Western Vermont Railroad is now completed, and in excellent working condition throughout. It is fully equipped with all the requisite rolling stock, and its traffic is adequate to pay a cass interest on its cost. This traffic ix increasing very fast, from the natural growth of the business of a thriving and improving district—from its osition, which must ever command the great travel be- Treen New York and Montreal—and particularly from the rapid developement of the marble quarries along the line of the road. This section of country produces the finest marble in America. It is of various qualities, adapted to all the purposes for which marble is used. Quarries are opening out now everywhere near the line of this road, from Rutland and Manchester, and Ablington, and very large additional water and steam mills, for sawing the blocks, are in process of erection by companies of capi- talists from Boston and Philadelphia. From this business alone the Western Vermont Railroad will soon derive an income which will render the bondholders perfectly se- cure. The length of this road is 52%; miles from Rutland, southerly, through the valleys of Utter Creek and the Bat: tenkill, #6 the New York State line at North Ber ton, with a branch 434 miles southeast to Bennington village. At its northern terminus it connects with the Rutland and Burlington, Rutland and Whitehall, and Rutland and Washington Railroads, and brings the ‘iggresate through traffic from these roads to and over the Troy and Boston road to the Hudson river. The paid-up stock of the Western Vermont Rail- road amounts to...... eeeseonrees $400,000 The first issue of bonds has been disposed of; ex- cept the short bonds, which the company have decided not to sell... seeeeeseseesdes 300,000 And the convertible bonds, now offered for sale, will clear off the floating debt, leaving the Snrerexy, proprie. tors of fifty-seven miles of excellent road, laid wi neon T rail, with depot grounds and buildings, and an ample equipment, costing in all, including the expended profits of working, less than $19,000 per mile, which it is be- Meved is a ‘result unparalleled as regards cheppness of construction in New ad. * Since the of the main line of the road, in July last, the receipts from travel, for the great United States Northern Mail, and from the transportation of freight, which its equipment only allowed it to undertake efi- ciently later in the seasom, have amounted to $70,009. ‘The receipts for the current yoar are confidently esti- mated at $135,000. The working expenses are under 40 per cent, and the pending negotiations for running the trains under one management with those of the Troy and Boston Company, will materially reduce these expenses, and leave a net income of over 10 per cent on cost of the road, which will make the convertible clause in the bonds now offered of great value to purchasers. The Board of Directors has been recently reorganized, and consist of the prominent men along the line of the road, where the stock is almost entirely owned.
