Proposals for the sale of two hundred thousand dollars of the first mortgage convertible seven per cent coupon bonds of the Scioto and Hocking Valley Railroad Co. will be received at the office of Winslow, Lanier & Co., 52 Wall streot, until 3 P, M., on Thursday, the 8th day of Jay, These bonds are in sums of $1,000 cach, payable the 1st of November, 1864, with interest at seven per cent, semi- annually, 1st of November and 1st of May, im this city, where the principal sum is also payable They are se~ cured by a first and only mortgage, or deed of trust, to J. ¥, D, Lanier, Eeq., of New York, in trust for the bond- holders. They are issued under acts of the Legislature of Ohio, authorizing them and the mortgage to securo thoir payment. The amount of bonds thus to be issued under the mortgage, is $300,000, of which $100,000 have been disposed of for iron rails, &c.; only $200,000 are now of- fered for sale. The mortgage covers that part of the road lying between the city of Portsmouth, on the Ohio river, and Jackson, in Jackson county, Ohio, a distance of forty-five miles, costing the company, when completod, about $100,000; is the first and only lon thereon, and the only debt of the company. The whole line from Jackson to Portemouth is under contract for completion, twenty miles of which are nearly ready for the rails, ‘Two thousand tons rails, heavy T pattern, are now ar. riving at Portsmouth, Rails for the residue of theline have been purchased. The whole road to Jackson will be completed and in operation early next year. The means to construct and equip this road are provided by stock and bonds. The sum of $400,000 has been sub- seribed to the capital stock of the company, about $300,- 0C0 of which has been paid in and expended on the line; the residue will be regularly paid on the call of the com- pany. To raise the remaining means this loan is resort ed to, The mortgage gives full power to the trustee to take possession of the road, its personal effects, depots Siar grounds, &c., and to sell the same, with its franchises, to a 40 raise money to pay elther interest or principal, in cas of default. ‘The losses by fire in the city of Boston, with the amount of insurance. during the first six months in each of the past two years, was as annexed:— ‘Bois. 20 } eH Om 208 Brandy, galia,. 216 Corn Meal, puns 160 male i Dried Fish, drms “a Oats, buehs..... seve B84 Domestion.
