The other terminus of the road (Pensacola), is a naval station, with the best harbor on the Gulf, The utility and profitableness of such a road not be questioned.”” The Brunswick Canal is twelve miles long, and fifty- three fect wide, and extends from the great river of Geor- gia, the Altamaha, to the port of Brunswick, where it is fed by tide water, The company was chartered by the State of Georgia in 1835, which charter was renewed in 1851, with perpetual privileges ofa liberal character. The | State has subseribed and paid $50,000 to the stock, and the company have expended a eapital of $475,000 on the canal, which is all but finished; and the proceeds of the bonds are to be appliod to the payments for the comple- tion of the excavations and of the building of the two locks, one at each terminus ef the canal. They will require no more money to fulfil all their engagements for perfecting their works, which are in active progress, and the canal Will be opened for trafic on the Ist October next.
