MONEY MARKET. New Yorx, Oct. 10-6 P.M. Notwithstanding the pressure in the money market continues in its modified form, yet the panic has entirely subsided, and, in fact, money can be obtained on easier and better terms now thar it could be a week ago. It is aremarkable fact that the popular feeling has set against this paric from the first; and the outery against certain banks could not prevail with the publis, sufficiently to cause them to part with bills at a sacrifice. The people who toil with their hands are usually paid in that des- eription of money, which it seemed an object with some to depreciate; but they were not disposed, and are not, to discard as worthless, or as reduced in value, paper with the character of which they have long been familiar. This peculiar instinct of those who receive wages merits particular attention, and shows that it is much more difficult to break a bank with which the mass of the people are acquainted than it was some years ago. Bterling exchange Is becoming more abundant, and is quoted at lower rates—ay, from nine to ten per cent. ‘The stock market opened quite firmly this morning. and closed with a still better aspect forthe buyers. At the second board the market improved on the prices o the morning—Erie Railroad sold as high as 78, Harlem 67, Income bonds 91, and for Convertible bonds 88 was offered. Readivg closed at 54 bid, and the whole market closed firm, ‘There was great stringency in the money market of Philadelphia, yesterdey, as we are informed by a highly respectable house connected with the financial affairs of that city. ‘The receipts at the office of the Assistant Treasurer of this port, to-day, amounted to $70,229 37; paymouts $38,624 33—balance, $3,323,175 21. The value of foreign dry goods entered at this port for consumpticn, for warebouring, and withdrawn from warebouse, during the week ending the 9th ins: , was as follows :— Movements Porsiex Day Goons—Weexcy Inronrs.
