the issue prior to July 22, 1846; $18,200 of the iarue of July ‘22, 1646, and $11,850 cf the issue of January 28, 1847. Weare requested to etate that the Phenix Bank of Bainbridge is redeemed in Wall street and in Albany. Part of the securities held by the Comptreller ou account of this bank are bends and mortgages, which, we learn ere to be withdrawn, and New York State stocks sabsti- tuted. Im relation to the failure of the People’s Bank of Pa- terson, the Ratersom Intelligencer says :— ‘The public are quite as wise as we are. as respects the ts of a redemption of the bills. The bauk had a cireulation, bi ‘but, the amount cannot be escertained. = was $143,729 when the annual statement was made 4n January last. aud we should not be at all surprised to find it materially increased since then. Of its asets we know nothing, but fear that they will be smail compared With its liabilities. As the cae! jer, who alone can give poy ome nd like a truthful statement of affairs, ie unw! lose, even to the dizectorr, the condition of the tans, the public will have to await the exsinination of the receivers. These were appointed by the Chancellor on Monday, and consist of C forth and Corns. 8, Van Wagcner, Exqs .f Paterson, and Wm. F Day, Ksq , of Elizabethtown. y will doubtless proceed imm>- Spotsis with an investigation. aud at an early day, it is hoped, will give to the public a reliable etatement of affairs. Tn & meantime it may be weil for holders not tosutmit to the ruling rates, which vary from ten to twenty five cents on the dollar. ‘The last quotation of United States Six per Cent bonds ‘at Hamburg, is 108to 4; do. six per cent, in Hope's certificates, 106; Massachusetts Pive per Cent sterling, 102} to 3; Maryland Five per Cent, 853g. At Amster- dam, Hope's Louisiana Five per Cents are quoted at 98, A general Court of the Proprietors of the Bank of Bng- Jand, was held on the 20th of September, when a dividend for the haif year ending on the Slst of August last, of three and a half per cent, free of income tax or other de- duction, was declared payable cn the 11th of October next, out of net profits for the six monthe, amounting to £564,188, which is £13,904 lesa than in the previous half year. After payment of the dividend, the rest will amount to £3.057 613. The annexed statement exhibits the value of foreign dry goods entered at this port for consumption, for ware hourirg, and withérawn from warehouse, for the week ending the 2d instant :— Movements ix Fonsicn Dry Goons—Werxzy Iuronte. Manufactures of wool. 60 Manufactures of cotton, 222 ‘Manufactures of silk . 120 Menvfactures of flux $210,918 ‘The total amount put upon the market during the week was $780,351. This is small enough for the season. The mount warehoured during the week was moderate. It is fortunate that the importations are limited, for the exportation of merchandise during September was small- erin value than during the same month last year, or in several previous ones. The annexed statement exhibits the value of merchan” dive exported from this port during the month of Sep- tember, distirguishing the destination and extent of shipments to each country:— Vaive or Exronts rrom tHe Port or New Yoas— BerTem ER. sf ocaii gS rst ge aie Bf ese ao opoyk BR OE SS Fixe te ?F 3 sy ffl 83 is ee, eer FP i3E $571,458 6S 400 OMS? «S24 18,65 099 9,721 1,68 0 70 40.264 we bos 44 4.108 — as 0 5,126 3457 jorth of ¢ Burepe. 17.65 ~— 5s 638 6, i 451 Estat 807 - 124% 89, 279 ait ee a 95175 118218 W6,942 Bom 19,209 63495 3.051 FA ye SiS24 ‘270 1sh,270 nig 2a “Ost — 70 (1400 as, = 13,166 é 7 “00 rh) ee eS fice, 22708 “= = fetes 2170 = = = ish West indies, = 4,720 5189 $2,508,995 —BU,E74 115,703 114,881 ‘The aggregate value of merchandise exported during the month was $5,044.304. The aggregate of merchandi«e and specie exported from this port in September, for eeveral years past, has been as subjoined:— Pont or New Youx—Exroats 1s Fore; But for the large shipments cf specie in September, 1851, there would bave been a very great falling off in the @ggregate compared with the corresponding month last yeat The exportation of specie from this port since the Ist of January, 1851, exceeds in value the exportation of merchandise. Together, the value is greater than the exports for a corresponding period in any previous year Notwithstanding thie ana the large remittances of public stocks, foreign exchange Is sustained at very high points, and epecie continuesto go forward, From thie time out we |i bave more activity In our foreign export trade— not #0 much from this port as irom the South. Cotton Las commenced going forward, and before the lapse of many weeks, we sball feel the beneficial effects of such tbipments. Retes for sterling bills have already depre- ciated, and the supply on the market largely increased. If this continues, the outward current of specie will sooa entirely cease, and our receipts of gold dust from Califor. nie will be retained for home consumption. As soon we can retain oll our remittances from California, we shell rapidly fill vp our banks, and add largely to the me- talie cireulation of the country. All we have to do to ineure permanency in this improvement, is to keep down the importations to a moderate amount. 1 0 Bw it's (ort Die nb aah y ev is Deo "pat 1” Portemonth bb 3 WON J Zine Co Vf 9 o 60 eo ax 100 do ww oT, 360 Morris Canal LM SECOND BOARD. 9/000 Erie Income Bas 86 \4 100 she Harlom RR ONO do ny 100 6 Mio Hove inined re oo 409 she Reading R 8 ww do | ae arena a eae ta a donk M, Cuamnena, See. pt ASTLE GARDE! —GRORGR HUMMEL'S “RSSENCE ‘of Coffes, The ates tion of houtekeepers, proprietors #, boarciog houses, sad all consumers e well 00 cognaind of vessels, is reapectfull ay ‘vited to th reparation. now on ‘exbibivion at ferign hotest: and totatl, b ail che! & 20 Grecewich eteect, one door below jarolay.
