Axuany, Sept, 25, 1851, The delegates of the Anti-Rent Convention assembled {0-day, at noon, at Beardeley’s Hotel, corner of Washing- ton and Hawk streets. There is « very large democratic mpjority, and the leaning is toward the democratic party. There is astrong feeling against the whigs, ia conse- quence of their having defeated a bill catled the Stay bill, brought in for the purpose of euspending the collection of rent till the pending cuits were nally decided. They any that the whigs bave done nothing for them, Wash- ington Hunt, though on their ticket when he was elected Governor, has not given them any countenance siuce, end the came observation applies to other men whom they neminated, and for whom they cast their votes, The anti-renters are sadly puzzled now, They are afraid to make nominations at present, lest they should injure the men they prefer, by getting them out in the county of New York, which isdown on the anti reaters. Levi 8. Chatfleid is their man for Attorney General, though he bas not shcwn them much gratitude since his election; but they decline nominating him, becwuse they fear it will do him harm, A portion of the conyention—most of them whigs—are in favor of making selections from the democratic and whig tickets; while another portion think the true, and dignified, and politic course for the anti renters, and that which will meke their influence moat felt, ls to po- minate an independent ticket, and thus, by taking away votes, defeat the men to whom they are opposed The wirepullers of both the whig and democratic par- ties are busy cajoling the delegates, ia order to get the snti-rent vote quietly, for thels respectiro tickets, with- cut incurring the pubiic dium and disadvantage of ob- trining such support. ‘The anti-rentyrs seem to be at @ loss for able leads ra, and cousequently are humbugged toe cousiderable ex- tent by the “artful dodgers” of the wiaig and democratic fectiona. THE PRELIMINARY BUSINES, Gro. D. Finkle, of Colombia county, was appointed temportry chairman by avclemution; and Adam J. Mott, of Renzseieas county, and Valentine Sreadwel, of Aibacy county, Were appointed secretaries, CONTESTAD SEATS—YMPTOMS OF A STORM, A motion was then made thet the temporary chair man appotbt & committee Lo settle couterted seats.
