The Captain General declines to receive Commodore Parker in # diplomatic capacity stating that any diplomatic communications must be addyessed directly to the Spanish government, or to the Spanish minister inthis country. Two Shocking Rallroad Accidents, SEVERAL PERSONS EITHER KILLED OR MORTALLY WOUNDED. Boston, Sept. 24, 1851. A fearful accident occurred on the Vermont Central Railrood, this afternoon, by which, a “dowa” passenger troin of three cars, came in collision with an “up’? freight train. The former was going at the time, downs grade, at the rate of 50 miles an hour, near West Aartford, Ver- mont and 6 miles beyond the White river junction. The entire passenger train was demolished, and seven- teen pastengers were injured, four of them fatally. The passengers were mostly up country people, who had been to attend a cattle show. Nine limbs are reported to have beem broken. Among the injured are 0, P. Kimball, conductor, whose Trend is badly wounded; his recovery is doubtful. Meeting of the Friends of the Late Fenimore Cooper. A meeting was held at two o’clook yesterday afternoon, in the City Hall Library, for the purpore of doing honor to the memory of the late Fenimore Cooper, one of the eminent American contributors te the literary world. Doctor Rufus Griswold stated the reason why the meet- ing was not as largely attended as was expected, and that it was but a preliminary one, owing to the absence of a number of the friends and admirers of Mr. Cooper, ‘and from whom he had received letters of apology. Weehington Irving was appointed President of the meet- ing, Fitz Greene Halleck, Secretary, and Doctor Rufus W. Griswold, Associate Secretary. It was moved by Mr. Joseph Blunt, that a committee of five be appointed for the purpose of carrying out the objects of the meet- ing. The President proposed the names of the gentle- men to torm the committee, viz., Judge Duer, Fits Greene Balloeke, Richard B.
