VERY LATE FROM NICARAGUA. OPENING OF THE NEW ROUTE 10 THE PAOIFIC. Success of ‘the Steamers mers on Lake Nicaragua and River San Juan. AGGRESSIONS OF THE ENGLISH, oy &e., &>. ‘The apiendid siandip Prometheus, Capt. Churchill, sagrived yesterday, after making » short passage from Gen Jean de Nicaragua. She left that place on the 4th Anetent ‘The news brought by the P. ir interesting in a com- ‘mercial point of view. The new route from the Atlsatic ‘6 the Pacific, by the way of the Lake Nicaragua, has been successfully opened. Our correspondents give full ‘and interesting accounts of this impurtant event. ‘We learn by the P. that the reports which have ap- peared in the New York papers, relative to the Nicara- gua route, are unfounded in fact. It has been stated that the Nicaraguan government bad revoked the cher- tergiving Messrs. Vanderbilt, White & Co. the exolu- sive right of the Nicaragua route, because the company toad failed to fulfil the conditions on which the grant was made. This report was unknown at Nicaragua, and unknown to its government; there is no truth in it. ‘There was another rrport to the following effect: — ‘That subsequent to the grant made tothe above named company, the Nicaraguan government made another grant, giving the same privileges to another company, in common with them. When Messrs. Vanderbilt, White & Co, heard this report, they directed their agent at Nicaragua to inquire Into ite truth, from the govern- ‘ment ; end the Minister for Foreign Affairs replied, that ‘there was no truth ia it, and the reply has been laid before the Board of Directors, who were perfectly satis- fed with it. ‘These reports probably arcse out of the fact of the right of navigation of the waters of the country being granted to another party, but not for the purpose of @ Jine of communication, but for merely internal purposes. ‘The route consists entirely of water, except twelve miles, ‘which is 60 level that « horse can trot over it in an hour. It is proposed to erect either a plank road, or railroad— probably the former at first. as the distance is 80 short. ‘The Prometheus returns this evening, at 5 o'clock, to en Juan, with passengers for California. In Westport, about a dozen miles southwest from New Bedford, we learn the tempest was almost, if not entirely unprecedented in its fury, accompanied with a violent storm cf hail. Full grown trees, fences, and even stone walls, were levelled to the ground. In one orchard, noe than adozen trees were either torn up by their roots, or broken off. The corn fields were ¢ it ompletely levelled, and the leaves of big yo were cut by the bailetones as with a knife.
