When our foreign traneletor bas made translations for our journal, of valuable and important documents, is sure to and them, a day or two afterwards, im the Tribune and other papers, published as original matter, without the least notice of the source from whémce they are de. rived. This is a cheap wsy of getting along. We make, however, no objections to the Tiibune’s filling its columns at our expense, (he is knowm to be an eco- nomical gentleman); all we object to is the dishonesty of not giving us the due credit. This might be denom™ Snated a crime, but as Fouché said, it is more thane crime, {tis mean and dishonorable. We bave failen upon this vein, from noticiag in the Journal of Commerce, ot yesterday, an article made up entirely out of a long and interesting report published in the Herald pearly a month ago. It was a report pro- pared by one of our reporters, describing tm full the visit of the Hungarians to the Brooklyn Ladies? Acade- my; givisg, in full, the speeches of Professof Winkel- | man, Governer Ujbazi, Miss Apelionia Jagello, and others. This report, at the time. excited wonder and astonishment in all who are acquainted with newspaper labor end enterprise, at the accuracy, fulness and elo- gance of all the details, drawn up in a style which ex- cited general admiration, and which filled the Hunga- rians themrelves with gratitude and ecstacies of de- light when it was trenslated to them. To our great | surprise and astonishment, we find our own article, the | identical thing itself, re- hashed, cut up, altered slight- ly, and given as original in the Journal of Commerce, without the least notice of our labors, of our expens4, or of cur enterprise, in engeging hands to furnish, in« stantaneously, to the public, every day, all that is new and of passing interest. Thus to see the Heruld in dis- guise, in other journals, under other names, and all its genive and talent appropriated and ascribed to another, only vexes us because it is an injustice; andtoan | honest mind nothing is eo outrageous and vexatious as injustice, whether general or special, wholesale towards people, or retail towards individuals, Tha be a question. Itis worse than taking a man’s hat off his head, erasing his name and inscribing one’s own instead—it is taking a man’s head itself, and saying this bead, with all ite brains and intellect, is mot the real owner's head—it isimy head. The hour wae fixed ; but when the Go« vernor arrived with his suite, not a humaa being beside the Mayor was-present. ‘The usual forms of politeness were thea interchanged, and the company invited te pata ake of a handsome colla- tion at the Mayor’s private residence. All this was incognito, aud reminded me of the arrival of Mr. Poussin, who, from his first appearance to the moment of his departure, was an object of distrust and dislike with ‘the Washington people... But to return to the Governor of Comorn. His object in coming here was to implore the President to intereede in behalf of Kossuth, and his noble followers, with the Sultan. They will, uo doubt, add to the strength of the representations on the part of England and France, and place our couutry in the proper attitude before the eyes of the civilized world, We onght certainly to cherish neutrality in the wars of European cabinets ; but, in the wars of liberty against despotism, inditierence or ego- tistical neutrality would be too nearly akin to cowardice to be adopted as a safe plan of action. The United States ought to speak—where they speak at all—the language of freedom, whether she addresses an equal or a Huropean despot.
