Infanticide —A married woman by the name of Aun Crofton, residing at No. 147 Leonard street, was con- fined on Monday night, and was delivered of a fine pe ve pre ild. She was attended only by her sister, Bridget Cummings, without any medical aid, but finding herself becoming exceedingly weak for want of proper treatment, Dr. Whitaker, of 510 Broad- way, was called in, who found the sick woman ina perck critical situation. The suitable remedies were applied, and the woman is now doing well. The child on the arrival of the Doctor, was no where to be found; this circumstance created his suspicion, which he communicated to Justice McGrath, of the Sixth ‘Ward, who immediately made search for the child, aided by officer Wooldridge, and resulted im the child being foundinthe sink. The head and body of the child was smothered in the filth, leaving only its little dege sticking PP to which a rope was made fast, and the poor little innocent was again brought to light, ‘The mother, it is said, has been married only two months, which is supposed to be the cause of the ehild’s destruction. Justice McGrath placed both the women in custody, and the coroner will hold an in- quest on the body to day. The Seduction Case.—Under this caption, in the Herald of Monday morning, an article appeared, re- fleeting upon the conduct of the mate of the ship lows, for refusing to give up aman named Lawson, against whom officer Leland held a warrant, on a charge of seduction. The effect of the revolutions on the continent of Europe, upon the commerce of Great Britain, is like- ly to be of the most disastrous nature. The manu- facturers gf England have heretofore found large mar- kets on the continent for their fabrics, and whatever reduces the’consumption in that section of the world cannot but injure very seriously the prosperity of this important British interest. England will feel the re- volutions on the Continent in this way more than any other; and if continued for any length of time, they wil eventually produce a revolution in Great Britain that will change entirely the political and finanoial insti tutions of that country. As we have before remarked, there is very little prospect ofamy revolution in Eng- and similar to those which have taken place on the Continent; but any one acquainted with the position She oceupies in the commercial world, knows that she can only maintain it by the preservation of the mo- nopoly she bag so long enjoyed of the Kuropean mar- kets; and nothing alarms British politicians and capital- ists so much , as toace any reduction in the demand from those sources. The export tables are, therefore, closely watched, and the cause of any decline is sought out with the greatest avidity, and, if possible, a remedy at once applied. The decrease in the exports of British mannfactures, within the past ten months, bas been a large per cent, the cause of which is beyond the influence of the government, or any other power, At this time, such a falling off in the exports is peculiarly unfortunate, and will be attended with the most fatal consequences, A larger portion than usual of the exports from Great Britain to vie Continent, will, this year and next, be required to pay for the quantity Of breadstuffs which will be im- ported into the United Kingdom, to aipply the deft. ciency in her own productidns; and her resourced Will in this way be more seriously restricted than appears i apparent from the tables of exports. In the event of , general war in Europe, there will be a drain of speci wore than an export of bullion in payment for bread- stuffs, or by any ordinary derangement in commercia] affairs. The scarcity of gold and silver which would be experienced soon after the commencement of a ge- neral war on the Continent, would tend very much, | not only to a further depreciation iu prices for mana- factures and products of all kinds, but to » farther re- duction in the demand for consumption, and conse- quently in the exports from Great Britain.
