TELEGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE. Great Demonstration In favor of the French Repubitc, Wasninaron, April 24, 1848. Neither House of Congress is in session. governmental offices are closed, and business entirely suspended, on account of the great de- monstration in favor of the French republic, in which our citizens are participating en masse. The procession was mixhty and most enthusi- astic, and with its splendid and appropriate ban- hers made a very fine appearance. The exercises were held at the east front of the capitol, where the scene was most magnifi- cent, The vast multitude present, the fine open- ing prayer by the Rev. Charles Davis, a Metho- dist clerzyman, and an able address by Richard Coxe, Esq., added to the grandeur of the affair, which was just such a one as was worthy the capital of the Union. Further Demonstrations, Putvapetputa, April 24, 1848. A mass meeting of the citizens of this city And couoty, to sympathize with the freemen ot France, was held in Independence square this afternoon. It was a spirited and impressive af- fair throughout. Owing to the sickness of Mayor Swift, Mayor Belsterling, of the Northern Liberties, preside Frem the South. Avausra, Ga., April 24, 1848. Destructive Conflagration in Albany, Aupany, April 24—9 P. M. A fire broke out this afternoon in the rear of the residence of N. Starks, on the south-west corner of Westerlo and Church streeta, Almost the entire block bounded by Church, Weeterlo, John and Dullius streets, was con- sumed, ine!uding the church on Westerlo street. Only one or two houses on Dallius atreet have escaped. Almost all the houses on the south side ak John street, between Dallius and Church, are burned. A store house owned by John Bogart, situated 50 rods from the fire, took fire from the burning embers, which were flying in every direction. All our city insurance companies are sufferers. Mre, F. Pruyn was serious injured in jumping from Starks’h ouse. The fire was occasioned by live coals being put in @ wooden box.
