The fall syheat though small in quantity, is considered very good —the epring wheat and other spring crops promise well apd hay 4s very abundant. Our informant states that the rust, had attacked patches of wheat in Vaughan and Markham, and seemed apprehensive that the late alter- nations of neat aud wet would greatly aggravate the ev).—Toronto Patriot. We have seen a gentleman from Tennessee who ar- rived here yesterday with a large lot of Tennessee corn, being the first that has ever been brought to this city. ‘The corn was placed on tue railroad. at Dalton, a depot about 16 miles from the Tennesave line on Friday last he Atlantic aud Western railroad has just been finished to Dalton: and almost the first car ever loaded was the one with thiscorn. We welcome our Tennessee friends to this market, and trust that this is but the auspicious beginning ofa trade that willbe f undeminently profita- ble to'both parties. Onw word, howaver,to the directors of the railroads on which this trade has to pass from ‘Tennessee to Charleston. The gentleman who brought down this load of corn complains heavily of the hich amountoi freight charged, which was 28¢ por bushel from Dalton. At this rate it will be impossible for the corn dealers of Tennessee to coatinue the trade with us It iy therefore highty important that the railroad compa- uios should take this matter into their serious conside- ration at once, bofore the people of Tennessee, whose trade is just beginning, become disheartened, and with- draw from & business which it is so much the interest of railroads to encourage. Charleston Putriot, July 29, Our Valley exchanges (says the Lynchburg Republi- can.) give very flattering accounts of the prospects of the growing corn crop, in that fertile portion of the State deed all our information respecting the corn crop in rginia is of a cheering character. In Halifax county the crop is said to be more promising than has been for many years; and in this {mmediate vicinity the pros- pect for an abundaat yield is highly encouraging. We found, during a late Hitt to some of the lower counties, that the crop had suffered somewhat from the drought and the ravages of the chinch-bug in that section, yet upon the whole, the prospect is fair for more than an average yield “The oat crop, we learn from all quarters. is a very fine one, while the wheat crop, though by no panmnebentont; is pronounced to be of a superior qual- ty. A correspondent tothe Detroit Daily Adver iser, wri- ting from Plymouth, under date of July 27, says:—In our town during the present mouth, we have Bad all sorts of weather. The early part of the month, we had along drouth; but on Friday, the 16th, we hada fine shower of rain, which greatly revived the whole vegeta- dle kingdom, and everything in the vegetable line came forth with resplendent beauty. Our farmers com- mencedcutting their wheat, and kept on until nearly done, but the showers of rain dally continued. The wheat commenced growing in the sheaf, and they be- came greatly alarmed; but » kind Providence sent to them this day, good weather, and a continuation of the same for two or three days more, will enable them to get all the crop housed in good order. We have had an unu- gual share of hot weather of late. ‘The meroury at my house, (in the shade,) stood on Sunday, the 18th, at 10 A. M., 90; at2, P. M., 95, and 3,P. M.,100. But alas, this morning. my neighbor, H. Fralick, Eeq., says that he saw plenty of frost about his plantation, and others Temarked the same; but not to such an extent as to in- jure vegetation in the least. We saw a letter yesterday from Lake Providence, La., dated the 21st inst. which says that the army worm ap- ‘ed the aay previous ona plantation in that vicinity, naming the owner of it) and already more than half tbe crop was destroyed, Thre is the firat positive aver- ment we have seen of the appearance of the worm.—N. Sheep.xnd Lumbs—Though there js a pretty steady de- mand buyers do not operate liberally enough to dispore of the sappli«s us fast as they come in.
