The Crops. ‘The crops are now suffering for rain. In every other respect they are doing well The weather, within the ‘last month, has been shtful., It is said that Illinois will not raise more wheat this year than will be required for home consumption. But there will be very large quantities of Indian corn made, which will be the substitute for consumption should wheat continue high in price. We were visited by a few quite refreshing showers on Sunday night und yesterday. ‘The fields now present a most beautiful appearance ; wheat, rye. corn, oats, pota- toes, ke. are springing from the varth as it were by magic. All fears and apprehensions of a failure of crops in our section must disappour.—Lehigh (Pa.) Register. Never, we believe, did heaven’s showers come down so gratefully ason Monday last. One death has occurred, and there are several sick. On board the ship Lochlibo, which arrived at Quebec on Friday last, 20 deaths had occurred from ship fever. In the alms house at Boston, on Monday last, six deaths ocourred, five of ship fervor. The Montreal Herald of the 25th inst., seya;—“ We re- grot to say that the forebodings of evil with respect to emigrants arriving in the St. Lawrence, are at this mo ment only too sadly verified, We have been favored with the sight of a letter from Quebeo, from which it ap- pears that a very large number of deaths have taken place on board of many of the vessels coming out,— board the nes, there have been fifty deaths; on board the Wandsworth, forty-five; on board the Black, ton or eleven; on board the George, in all about one hundred and fifty.
