THR HEIRS OF FULTON. The bill for the relief of the heirs of Robert Fulton, (a magnificent grant of $76,300) coming. up for its final reading, and being upon 11s passage, ‘Mr. Tappan objected to this tremendous appro- priation without a further examination. He therefore moved that the passage of the bill be postponed—17 to 14—motion disapproved. Mr Berrten desired some information asto the merits of this claim. He was utterly opposed to the grant without such understanding Mr. Pgarce said that the bill was in the very state in which it passed last session; and then proceeded to_a brief statement of the services rendered by Fulton to the Goverament—the com- pensation received, and the balance due. Mr. Berrien intimated that some written expla- nation should accompany go large a grant. Mr. Dickinson, aftersome general views upon the bill, said that it would require something more thane’ had’yet seen, or he should vote against the yt Mr. Breese believed that so tar from the Gov- ernment bemg indebted to Fulton, he believed that there was a balance to the United Stutes.
