More Danina BureLariss anp Hianway lo: nixs.—la Buffa'o, on the 10th inst., the hardware store of Wm A. Thomson was broken into and rob- bed. Last Saturday night, a milkman, named Clark, was stopped on the highway, near Boston, by a foot pad. With the use of his whip he drove off the rob- ber, but not till he had snapped his pistol at him. ‘There is only one course to adopt to rid ourselves of these rascals, if any of them make their appear- ance in thiscity. Go to Spies & Co., in Pearl street, purchase one of Allen’s six-barrelled pistols, and use it whenever a robber givesyouacall. This will prove an effectual remedy against future visits Park Taeatar —“ Othello” was performed last night, with Wallack as the Moor, and Booth as Iago. Wallack both dressed for, and played his part with great good taste, looking throughout the noble Moor. Mr. Booth’s Lago is too well known to admit of comment, and notat all inferior to his acting in his bestdays, when he w esteemed se- cond to none in this and many ether characters. Roderigo, however, seemed to have mall con- ception of bia part, making of the simple minded Venetian gentleman a mere buffoon. Between the tragedy and the farce, * The Boardisg School, Mies ‘Turnbull danced the Cachuca, which, as all her dances are, was clamorously called for ase. eond time. To-night Mr Boo h will ploy Richard Ill, his most popular, if not his best character. Mr. Rice’s Rerugn.—The visiters to the Chat- ham will rejoice to learn of the return of Mr. nice, the great Jim Crow. This evening he produces a new piece called Accidental Horrors or Incidendal Humors, which is said to be vastly amusing. He also for the first time tince his return from Europe repeats his laughable character in the ‘Peacock and Crow.” Miss Raliia brings forh anew sleaee, and the whole strength of the company will be called outin the production of the comedy of Ka- tharine and Petruchio. Tue Onymric was crowded, the perform- ances being of the kind to take :—‘ The National Guerd,” an odd little burletta called ‘The Loves of the Angels," which was very well received, and the farce, * Deat as a Post.” A debutante, Miss St. Clair, made her apoeurance asa dancer in thr Highiand Fung and Quick Step. and there was also a mediey dance by Miss Partingtoa. Mr. Mitchel seems determined to carry the day, if offer- ing varieties to the public will enable him to do so. Winter’s Cuemicat, Patntyxcs continue to afford extreme pleasure to all who visit them, and have been pronounced by judges who saw those painted by Daguerre, to be in many respects supe- rior to them. We advise all lovers of the fine arta, and those desirovs of witnessing curiosities, to pay a visit to this really splendid exhibition. —_—_—_—_—_— 0G- AMERICAN MUSEUM —Grand attractions this sfte noon—t erformances commencing at3 e’cluck. (Correspondence of @ Herald.) ‘The Weather Baptist Foreign Mission—The Fire. men— Theatricals—Business—Military Parade. Pumapgtruia, Nov. 14. Jamas Gorpon Bennett, Eso.— Dear Sin:— We have a pleasant day—clear and moderately cold—just the weather to give beauty to the appear: ance of our interesting fair, and induce a great turn out in Chestnut street, which hes been filled with the delightful creatures the entire morning and afternoon. The great mass meeting of the Baptist Foreign Missionary Society, of this and adjoining states, continues to be well attended in the Samson Street Church, and the exercises are of the most interest- ing character. Contributions have been made toa large amount in a'd of the Baptist Foreign Missicns, giving an energy and impetus to the cause which muet result in good, and the acquisition of souls to the fold of Christ’s Church. Oe of the clergy, the Rev. Morgan J. Rhees, of Wilmington, in the course of a thrilling and beautilul speech, euggeated as a plan tor raising tuuds for missionary purposes, thet every minister, and even private christian, at the head ot a family, s-cure a box tu be placed on the table at every meal, to receive the contributions of the members ot the femily, and the amount #0 accrued, and which might be increased by denying themselves many of the extra dishes and suprr- fluities, to be appropriated exclusively in aid of missions. He said, with help of God to, adop: this plan on hisreturnhome. The Rev. J L. Burrowes also addreesed tne conv nition, in an eloquent and affecting manner, relating an incident that trans: pired as the Rev. Mr Webb, who preceded him, was speaking. He stated that an aged colored wo- man came to him, placing a dollar in his hands, re- quested him to appropriate it in aid of the cause of missions The circumstance of this piovs old wo- mun, tottering with age—and yet the trequency of such contributions, he thought, wasa sharp reproot to those whose means were more ample, but whose ceutributions were ccmparatively much smaller— coming up to the cause with lees energy and devo- tion, und tnuch less tr quent, than the offering from poor but evangelical nx mbers of the church. The meeting will be contioued for several days There hus been no firemen’s riot since my last !— pleased amIto record this tact. I hope tor the character of our city we may never have a repet- tion of the scenes that occurred from Saturday to Monday morning, tending as they do, to sully the tairfame of our good city, and mekitg her name a byword and reproach am 'ng all people. The “ Mysierics of Paris.” was mared last night atthe National to a crowded house; 1 think it will prove an attractive piece—it will require pruning, and the correctioa of some tnfling faults incident to the hasty production of a new drama, when it doubtless will becomegpopular, and have along and aucpeencl run It is aunounced for every night this week. The Ttulian Opera Troupe, last night, at the Chestnut, in Norma, drew quite an indifferent house. I was surprised at this, heralded as they have been, and from the impressien they made last summer in this city; then in the hottest month of the year, drawing good houses. They will appear again on Wednesday evening, ’ Young Vandenhoit will take a benefit to-night at the Chesnut, producing a new play called “‘Pas-ion, or Youth and Age,” he acting the hero of the piece. He should have a tull house Business contioues as when last referred to, ex- cept a partially bri: k retai! business, rather flat. Major Fritz paraded yesterday witl. hie beautiful corps of Nati«nal Grays, presenting quite a martial appearance. Their movements were well! executed, aud very creditable. A new company, called the Tadependent Guards, also appeared yesterday tor the firat time. They are commanded by Caprain Haswell, who is deserving of praise for the elegant appearance ot his corps. Both companies were out 1m good numbers. Yours, &c. Philadelphia. (Correspondence of the Herald.) Putwapetrsta, Nov. 14, 44 o’clock, P. M } A duel was fought sbout 8 o’clock this mormng, on the line dividing the States of Pennsylvania and Delaware (the spot where Tom Marshall shot Col. Webb,) between two officers of the United States Navy, Lieut. Edward R. Thompson, of th: steam frigate Princeton, lying at our Navy Yard, and Midshipman Throckmorton. The formerreceived the ball of his antagonist in the left thigh, and it is feared the wound will cost him his lite. The wounded man and his trends are expected to ar- tive in the city this eveniag. Throckmorton and riends, I am told, took their departure for Ma- tyland. The origin of the duel I could not ascer- tain, but 1 believe it grew out of a difficulty at Jones’s Hote}, soine short time since Yours, 8. Svicrpk or A Principal WitTNESS IN THE CASE OF Apam Horn.—A letter was received in this city yes- terday, from Reisterstown, stating thet John Sterch, an important witness in the c. se of Adam Horn, alias Heil- men, indicted for the murder of hir wife, had committed auicide by cutting his throat with a knife, on Saturday night last. It will be remembered that Storch was the perscn to whom Horn was about to make over his proper ¥ at the time of his arrest in Pailadelptir. It appenre that Storch, after being before the grand Jury, at the present term of the county court, on his way home, in company with some friends, stated that he went to Horn’s housesoon afver the murder, when Horn handed him a Ger- men Bidle, ond observed that he had some important wat ters to tell him, ond that if he would ar to secrecy, he would communicate it,ond then told bim thet on the night of the murder his wife had went out of the house in her night dress, and remaining longer than he thought pruvence dicta ed, he went in search of her,and bavirg reason to suspect her chastity, in a Gt of anger he her with a shovel, which caused her death. at i stated that Storch assisted him in cutting up and secreting the body, and that the property was to be made over to is observing strict secrecy in regard te the whole effsir. 1a cons: quence of these circum stances, Storch was arrested on saturday last, and taken before a megistrate, who committed him to the custody of au cfficer, 1» order thathe mght undergo aturther exa. mination. Hs was placed for sefe keeping in a tavern, trem which he mavaged to effect his escape on Saturday mgnt, with only a portion of his clothes on, and on Sun- dey morning @ search was instituted in order to discover him, end by following a trail of blood, some distance from the tavern, his lifeless body was found with his throat cut, and his lower eatremeties nearly destroyed ty the hoga.
