Trape or tae Lower Provinces —The di sion in business throughout the Province, isd ble and commercial activity is almost suspen fa Every article of provineial produce is depreciated, the holder sells at a certaim loas, and there appears no chance of a change for the better; in fact, no change can take place to improve the domestic or internal trade, that does not commence externally. The Province must look abroad for that revival of commerce which will restore its industry to a healthy state, and promote its improvement. And where or in what direction is its improvement to be found? The ordinary channels of trade, which returned in exchange for our staples of fish and lumber, a mark- etable commodity for home consumption or impor- tation are so blocked up by competition, occasioned by Imperial legislation, that it is worse than useless to follow them; and the timber trade, the active pro- secution of which i in tbe Sister Province, made an excellent market for the vegetable production of Nova Scotia, and gave encouragement to our far- mers, is all but ruined. The carrying trade of flour to the West Indies, is handed overto the Americans —our fisheries are also despoiled by them; the ex- port business of Halifax is ie bast dwindling away— and the conviction almost forces itself upon the mind, that the legislation against Colonial interesta, 80 far as Nova Scotia is concerned, will, at no long period of time, limit its trade to the supply of the ar- my and navy stationed withia it, and to furnishing the interior with a few articles of luxury, inexchange for the little specie that may be afloat, and for the cabbages and potatoes sujplied to the capital —-Hu- Hifax Times PHILA LeHta id tia EXCHANGE.
