Latest Intelligence. From Nassav, N. P.—Bv the Jane, we have recei- ved a file of the Roya! Gazette of 28:h ult. The Le- gislature had adjourned over to the 10th Jan., when it would again assemble. The strong north winds which had prevailed for several days, having with- in the fast two or three become quite moderate, the vessels — ined for abroad which had previously cleared, have been enabied to proceed to sea. The Aan, sailed 20th for New Orleans; taking with her the cabin and steerage passengers wreck ed in the late Trenton. The following passengers sailed tor Baltimore in the James Powers, viz. Cap tain Thompson, of the insurance compiny, New York. Edward Metealf and Capt. Dearborn, late master of the Cazenove. Several wrecking vessels have arrived since our last, among which were one or two with the remaining part of the cargo, coffee, dc. of late American schr Casket. The others are from the wrecked vessels announced below. The brig Kasle of Philadelphia was found ashore at Hog sty Reef, masts cut way and half full of water — Her cargo consisted of tobacco and sugar, a part of which has been saved and brought to this por:. The wreckers report her as being large, full rigged, with a white streak round her. A chest containing sea men’s clothing and asmall sum of money wastound on the cay, and preparations had been made for erecting a tent. It is probable that a vessel passing at the time took the crew of the brig on board. An American. brig reported ashore on Manguena, by the wreckers trom the brig Eagle, to whom the fact was reported by an American schooner, Frew FLorina.—A late letter from Pilatka, pub- lished in the Savanah Georgian, says: ** All the In- dians out of the designated districtare now under control, except eleven warriors, supposed to be boar Deatnente Bay. The Avetaatacar Sacivine are as ed tor emigration, by the efforts and energetic management of Lt. Col. Hitcheock.” She St. Augustine News of Saturday week states,on authei information, that the entire bands of Oc ta-Achee and Tigertail, amounting to forty-two be riors, with their wives and children, were on Se horse Key, waiting transportation, and expected to sail thence about the Ist instant. The same paper contains the following paragraph respecting the movements of settlers in that Territory :—A number of persons have already gone to Indian River, on the southern coast, and the schooner Sultana left here on Thursday last with, several more, for the purpose of settling in that vicinity. We look forward to the day—trom | present appearances not far distant —when that section of country will be thickly in- habited. The climate is mild, and turtle, fish, oys- , and game plentiful. Supreme Cover er rar Unirep States, Monday, 1843.—The Supreme Court of the U, nited '§ met this morning at the Capi ol, agreeably to There were present—The Hon ‘Roger B, Ta- ice, Smith Thorapadas, John McLean, ry Baldwin, and John Catron, Associate Justices. No 9—Jonathan Strout et al., appellants, vs. James Foster et al. The argument of this cause was commenced by Mr. Dickens, for the appel- lants. Important Decision.—D. A. Oreutt and C. Hub- bard ads. J. Townsend and others.—This suit was jecided inthe Court ef Errors last week at Albany, tavorof the defendants—nineteen out of twenty members of the court who heard the arguments, voting for_anaffirmance of the judgment of the Supreme Court. It appears that the defendants in made a contract with Harvey Baldwin, Esq., then agent for the Syracuse Company, for certain village lots, agreeing to pay what was soon after considered too great a price. The suit arose from the plaintiff ’s endeavoring to enforce the payment of one of these contracts, which was declared void by the court, on account of its not having been pro- perly executed by the plaintiffs. The efiect of this decision will be to render null most of the sales made in this village by the company in the unfortunate speculations of 1835 and 1836, amounting, it is thought, to at least $200,000. Those who had means, and were in the net, may rejoice thata hole has been opened through which they can escape without sacrificing their all—l Onondaga Standard. Moyamensine Wi RavERS.—The disturbance a- these men has not yet been qmeted. They ed in f e yesterday morning, and paraded the stree king the webs from the looms, as on the day previous. They entered the house of a wea- ver in McDuffie street, broke his furniture up, de- stroyed a clock, beat the man most unmercifully, and leftthe place looking as if a troop of H ypopota- mit had bivouacked in the mansion. The poor tamily yesterday—husband, wile and children— were utterly destitute of food, and without the means of obtaining it, excepting as supplied by a few neighbors. They are objects of charity. We sup- p se the crime of the man thus punished, was that of working at ces under what others asked.— Philad. U.S. Gaz. Jan. 11 Rior amone THe Weavers.—Last evening, about seven o’clock, information was given to the Sheriff that a bedy of weavers were committing acts of violence at some houses in the neighborhood of Front and Brown streets. Sheriff Porter, with com- endable energy, immediately assemdied a strong c, and repaired to the place indicated, on ap- proaching which, a body of rioters, after making a demonstration of violence, retreated, but three of them were arrested. All of them had ‘large clubs in the! ir possession. They were consigned to the watca house for a hearing this morning. We were told at a late hour last evening that the rioters made an at- tack upon the Sheriff and his posse, from the mar- ket in Kensington, and that the Sheriff was severe- ly injured. Five of the rioters were arrested. Three companies of military have been ordered out—the Lafayette Light Guards, the German Yea- gers, and the Monroe Guards.—Phil. U.S. Gaz. Jan. 12. Tue River axp THE Season.—One of the extra- ordinary features of the present season, is the great body of snow which, during all the month of De- cember, has given all this and the western part of the State excellent and uninterrupted sleighing. The Tain on Sunday and the mild temperature of yester- day, however, has produced a thaw which has much redued the snow, opened the Hudson opposite this » and, as usual, covered our wharves and filled the cellats with water. The merchants on Quay street, and many of the intersecting streets, were driven from thi rush r stores and counting rooms. The of water and ice is said to come from the king up of the Hoosick. It is reported also that the Mohawk has broken up.— Albany Argus. Free at Fivsatne.—We learn from the Journal of Saturday last, that St. Ann’s Hall, a Young La- di Institute, under the charge of Rev.
