To da remains quiet. King of Pruffia toadvance ; Intent We thought Yefterday thas we were at the Eve of 2 being informed of Battle ; the Auftrians having advanced towards the Poft of Kefleldorff, which was occupied by Gen. Ziethen nading that vi'lage though without Eff:&t. Thae King with our Van Guard, and having even begun canno- sng bad, end the Wind esntrary, obliged me to defer it, il at Jeaft the latter fhould be favourable; if they can, by any Means, be deftroyed, it fhall be done. 1n attacking a flying Enemy, it was impoflibe in the Space of a fhort Winter’s Day, that sll our Ships thould be able to get into Ation, or all thofe of the Enemy brought to it. The Commanders and Companies of fuch as did come np with the Rear of the French, on the zoth, behaved with the greateft Intrepidity, and gave the ftrongeft Proofs of a true Britith Spirit. In the fame Manner, 1 am fatisfied, would thofe have sc- quitted themfelves, whofe bad going Ships, or the Dift- ance they were at in the Morning, prevented from get- ting up. Our Lofsby the Enemy is not confiderable ; for in the Ships which are ngw with me, I find only One Lieutenant, and 39 Seamen and Marines killed, and about zo2 wounded. Wher I confider the Seafon of the Year, the hard Gales on the Day of Action, a- Flying Enemy, the Shortnefs of the Day, and the Coaft we are on, I can boldly affirm, that all that could poffisly be done, has been done. As tothelo’s we have fuftain- ed, let it be placed to the Account of the Neceflity I was under of running all Rifks to break this ftrong Force of the Enemy : Had we had but twe Hours more Day- light, the Whole had been totally deftroyed, or taken, for we were almoft up with their Van when Night overtook us. Yefterday came in here the Pallas, Fortune Sloop, and the Proferpine Firefhip. On the 16th I had dif- patched the Fortune to Quiberon, with Directions to Captain Duff, to keep ftritly on his Guard. In his Way thither fhe fell in with theHebe, a French Frigate of 40 Guns, under Jury Mafts, and fought her feveral Hours. During the Engagement Lieutenant Stuart, 2d of the Ramillies, whom [ had appointed to command her, was unfortunately killed ; the furviving Officers, on confulting together, refolved to leave her, as fhe prov- ed too ftrong for them. I have detached Capt. Young to Quiberon Bay with § Ships, and am making up s flying Squadron to fcour the Coait to the Ifle of Aix, and, if practicable, to attempt any of the Enemy’s Ships that may be there: Iem, S IR, &c.
