Tranflation of the Declaration, wkich bis Serene Highnefs Duke Lewis of Brunfwick, bas delivered to the Mini- Sers of the Belligerent Powers, refiding at the Hazue, in the Name of his Maj<fly, and of the King of Prijjia. HEIR Britannick and’ Pruffian Majeities, I moved with Compaffion at the Miichicfs which the War, that has been kindled for fome Years, has already occafioned, and muft neceflarily fiill produce ; fhould think them- felves wanting to the Daties of Humanity, and particu- larly to their tender Concern for the Prefervation of their refpective Kingdoms and Subjects,if they neglected the proper Means to put a Stop to the Progrefs of fo ‘fevere a Calamity, and to contribute to the Re eftablifh- ment of public Tranquility. In this View, and in order to manifeft the purity of their Intentions,in this Refpe(t, “their faid Majelties have determined to make the fol- lowing Declarations ; viz. That they are ready to fend Plenipotentiaries to the "Place, which fhall be thought moft proper, in order there to treat, conjointly, of a folid and general Pesce, ‘with thofe whom the Belligerant Parties fhall think fit to authorize, on their Part, for the attempting fo falutary an End. ( Thus far the Gazette.) It is faid that the Congrefs, will be held at Breda, and that the Plenipotentiaries on the Part of France will be M. Chavigny, Embaffador at T'urin, M. de Csftre, and M. de Bufly, who concluded the Hanover Neu- trality in the laft War. Ttis farther faid that France * has already propofed a Plan of Preliminaries to which few Objedtions can be made. V1ENNA, (the Capital City of the Circle of Aufiria, -and of the German Empire) Nov. 24. Yefterday Baron Reituenttein, Lieut. Col. and Aid-de Camp General, brought the agreeable News, that on the 1gth Field Marfhal Daunin Perfon, with a Part of the Army un- det his Command, attacked the Pruflian Troops under General Finck, who were pofted at Dippolfwalde, to the Number of 20,000 ; that he forced them to retire; sad that next Day the zoth, this Corps of the Enemy having taken Pofl: flion of the tamocus Camp a: Pirna, were again attacked and defeated, alter a moft obftinate Refiftance. Prince Leépold of Lobkowiiz, is arrived this Day with ftill more important News. He pafled thro’ the City accompanied by M, Reiizanftein, and preceeded by 24 Peftillions, to carry the'r Imperial Msjeity’s the News, that the reft of the Pruflian Corps, including the Generals and every Thing belonging to it, were forced on the 21ft, to lay down their Arms, and {ubmit to the Conqueror. Eighteen Battalions, and 35 Squadrons, furrendered Prifoners of War, and we tock 66 Pieces of Cannon. A more circumftantial Account of this memorable Event will foon be given. Mean while the following isa Lift of the Pruffian Generals, and Bat- talions and Squadron, which were takén on the 21itby the Imperial and Royal Trocps. Lieut. General Finck. Major Generals Robentifch, Wunch, Lindfizdr, Mofel, Bredow, Plarten, Falult, Gerfdoiff. 4 Baualions of Grenadiers; 13 Battalions of Fufileers; 1 Indepen- dent Battalion ; 15 Squadrons of Curaffizrs, 10 of Dra- goons ; and 10 oo Huffirs. Our Lols in killed and wounded doth not exceed 2200 Men; among whom are 20 Officers. Rouen ( in France) Ofeb. 25. According to Letters * from €anada by the way of England and Holland, dated Py i the 18th of September, all is not yet loff for us on the Continent of America. Amidft this Misfortune, we ftill have fome Confolation : The flat bottomed Veflels and the whole Armament are ftill in Port ; and excepting the Lofs, every Thing may fill be made to fucceed : But this will require "Time. The fhips of war which got up the River Villaine are the Glorieux, Robufte and Northumberland of 74 guns each, Infl:xible, Eveille, Sphinx, and Soltaire of 64, the Veftale and the Aigrette of 30, the Calipfe, and Prince Noir of 16 guns. The Thelee overfer and funk. Superbe is fuppofed to be Joft. Formidable, and the Magnifique of 74 guns, are judged to be taken. Solicl and Heros were firanded st Croifie. Tonnant of 80, Orient of 8o, Intrepide of #4, Daupine Royal 70, Jufte 70, Dragon, Brillant, and B zarre of. 64, are fuppofed to have got to Rochelle. The Enemy had 38 Ships of the Line, and confequently 13 more'than we. Utrecht Gaz. The Corps of the late General Wolfe was interred in a private mannerin the Family vault. December 1. Admiral Rodaey, in the Norwich, is arrived at 3pithead. " Yefterday the Hon, Brigadier General Townfend, who was et the taking ot Quebec, arrived in Town, and waited on his Msjefty. The Vanguard is arrived at Spithead from America. We hear that a French Officer on board the Formi- dable Man of War, taken in the Engagement, wrote a very moving Letter to Admiral Hawke, fetting forth the miferable Condition he and the Crew were in, having fo mary wounded Men on board, and begged that he would permis them to be fet on Shore : which Requeft, we hear, the Admiral granted, in regard that the wounded Men might get more Affiftance than they could rave on board. We bearthat the Formidable FrenchMan of War, car- rying 80 Brafs Guns, of 48, 36, and 24 Pounders, is 1% Feet longer in the Keel, than any of the Ships in bis Ma- Jefly's Navy, and is every other Way in Proportien. We hear the Thefee was funk by the Torbay, Com modore chpel, the firft broadfide, and had 815 men on board: The Superbe ‘was funk by Lord -Howe, with 800 men on board. By a lester from Sir Edward Hawke's Fleet we are informed, that it was contrary te bis own opinion that M. Conflans failed from Breft, that after be bad received [ail ing Orders'he Jfent an Officer to Paris, to endeavour to perfuade the Mirifler to wait for a more [eafonable Op- portunity, but inflead of lifieniny to his Advice, frefb Orderswere fent for bis putting to Sea with all Diligence. Capt. Campbell, of the Royal George Man of War, ar- rived at Plymouth on Wedne)day, in the Vengeance Frigate. The French King, we hcar, has iffued cutan Order forbidding the zrrefting, or impriloning of any Perfon whatfocver, on Account of Nan piyment of any Bills, that fhall come upon them, whicn are protefted from here or cllewhere. It is (zid, that nine Bankers at Paris have failed and flopt payment; and it is thought they will draw a great Number of Dutch and Englith Merchants after them, Nine Regiments are foon to be f{ent to Germany. By a Letter from one of Admiral Saunders’s Officers we learn, that when the Admiral had refolved te join: Sir Edward Hawke, he, after a Paufe, faid, ¢ lam determined to join Sir Edward, and go in Quelt of the French : The Serviceof my Country demands it of me. And .if it be not conformable to the Letter of my In- ftrutions, it is for his Majelty Service. The Rifk to me may be great, but the Forteiiure of my Life I look upon as light and inconfiderable when the Good of my Country is at Stake.” We hear that General WoLrre (as well as General AMHERST) was a Man of Kent, being born at Weitram, was baptifed there the 11th of January, 1727. Dec. 1. Daring the prefent War, there have been taken or defiroyed, 27 French Ships of ‘the Lire, and 3t Frigates; and two Ships of the Line and four Fri- gates loft ; making in the whole 58 teken or deftroyed, and fix loft. We have loft 7 men of war, and § frigates. The King has been pleated to appofllp James Mur- ray, E'q; Brigadier- General of hts Majelty’s Forces in America,and Colonel of the z4 Battaiion of the Royal American Regiment, to be Governor of Quebce. Dec. 4. Nadau Datreil, the late French Governor of Guadaloupe, was brought to Breft by M. Bompart, in Chains,in order to take hisTrial for giving up that I{land. We hear that the King of Pruflia has_wrote to bis Majefty, that notwithitinding the Advantage gained by Daun over Finck, he ftill had a fair Prolpe@ of being foon Mafter of all Saxony, and that General Finck’s Corps did not lofe sbove 1500 Men, with two General Officers. We learn from Holland, that the Letters of the 23d pait received there from London, made fuch & Revo- lution on the Exchange at Amfterdamn, that Aéions rofe on the z8th 15 per Cent. v We hear that the Subfcription to the Loan of 1760 is full, end that no more Applications for Subfcriptions will be received. The Courts of Verfailles, Vienna and Ruflia have determined to enterinto a Negotiation with the Kings of Great Biitain and Pruffis for a general Peace. - Noms. 1%8. GAZETTE. Foreign and Domeflick. Dec. 7. °Tis faid that Mr. Clifford, an Englifh Merchant at Amfterdam, has received from the Datch Ambaflidor at' the French Court, that Pondicherry, the capital ot the French fetclementsin the Eaft Indles, had [urrendered tothe Englifh forces that biocked it up both by fea and land : the place, it feems, could hold out no longer, for want of piovifions and ammunition. The French are fending out Bompar’s Fieet without waiting for the Ships bring deck’d or clean'd. We hear that the Britith Plenipotentiaries at the enfluing Congrefs will be the Right Hon the Earl of Hertford, the Right Hon. Charles Townthend, Efg; znd Major General Yorke, : Dec. 13. The Corps of Pruffians commanded by General Finck, which furrender’d to the Auftrians on the zoth ult. confilted of 12,762 Men, viz. g Generals, 6 Colonels, 3 Lieut. Colonels, 32 Majors, 88 Captains, 168 Captains en fecond, or firft Lieatenants, 85 Lient- enants, 100 Enfigns, 50 General Officers, 8 Officers of Artillery, and 12,213 Soldiers and Subaitern Officers. The Trophies were three Pair of Silver Kettle Drums, one Pair of Copper ditto, 24 Standards, and g6 Pair of Colours. There were alfo taken 24 Pieces of Cannon of 3 Pounders, 2 of 4, 19 of 6, 16 ot 12,2and g Haubit zers, inall 70 Pieces, with 44 Ammunition Waggons. The Auftrians loft in Killed and Wounded 934 Men. By a private Letter from an Officer in the Pruffian Camp in Saxony we are informed, that an Officer ia the Auftrian-Service, fome Time ago, came and volun- tarily enter’d into his Pruffian Msjefty’s Service, under Pretext of ill Trearment which he had received from Marfhal Daun, and has ever fince, by a private Cor- refpondence, inform’d him of all the Proceedings in the Pruffian Camp, which gave Marfhal Daun ali Oppor- tunicy of taking proper Meafures sccordingly, and was the principal Occafion of the laft unfortunate Aétion of the zoth. Dec. 13. The French King has ordered all the flat bottomed boats to be laid up till next ycar. The French Finances are fo much diftrefled, That a Merchant of this City,who has had the Direétion of the Penfions payable to the French Officers, who are Prifoners in and about Nottingham, has fent Orders to his Correfpondent refiding there to fufpend the Pay of the faid Officers ; and it is faid the fame wiil be done with Regard to thofe in other Parts of the King- dom. The Captain of a Norway Ship juft arrived, relates, That tour large Veflels and two {mall ones, were {cen off that Cosft the 1t Inftant. which were thought to be M. Thurot’s Fleet ; and it was conjectur’d they were put into fome Port in Norway. It is reported, that M. Thurot, upon his Return to France, will be put under Arreft, for not procesding to the Place of Deftination according to Orders. Advice is received of one of M. Thurot’s Frigates being loft, with 250 Men on board. Some Letters from Francfort by the laft Mail, fay, that Prince Ferdinand, on hearing the Lofs the Pruflians had futained under the Command of General Finck, in the Aftion on the zoth ult. gave Orders for 15,000 Men to march immediately, in order to join the King of Prufhia. They tell us from Paris,that notwithftanding Conflan’s Difafter, they continue the Preparations for an Invafion of Britain. A Letter from Leipzig by the laff Mail, dated the 30th paft, concludes with the following Pofifcript ¢ Notwithftanding the Check his Pruffian Mejefty has met with, there is great Reafon to believe he will be foon in Pofleffion of Drelden, as hé has deftroyed the greatelt Part of the Auftrian Magazine, therefore it is impoffisle for them to fubfift ; he has made two Auftrian Generals Prifoners.” A cartel for the exchange of 23,000 French prifoners, which has been for fome time fettling, will, ’tis ex- pected, be fully regulated very fpeedily. The Hon. General Townfhend will be appointed General ot the whole Militia of this Kingdom. 'T'hey write from Rome of the 10th inftant, that Don Philip, the King of Spain’s eideft fon is to ftay at Naples ’dill the nexe Ipring ; and then he is to go to Spain by land, to be feen puliickly, "that all the world may know that his Catholic Majefty has not taken his birth- right from him without caufe and reafon. The Fermentation at Paris increafes daily.
