On Wednefday the 23d of May the Honourable Brigadier-General WALDO, who went with His Excellency in his late Expedition to Penobfcot, drop’d down with an Apoplexy on the March juit above the firk Falls; and notwithitanding al the Affiftance that could be given, expired in afew Mo- ments.— His Excellency had the Corps brought down with him to the Fért Point, where it was intzrred in a Vault built for the Purpole on Friday, with all the Honours due to fo faithful a Servant of the Public, and fo good a Common- Wealth’s Man as the Briga- dier had ever fhewn himfelf to be.—Upon landing the Corps, it was received by a Guard, and when Pro- cefli on began the Shp King George fired Half minute Guans 'til it arrived at the Place of Interment :—the Proceflion was lead by an Officer’s Guard, next to which the Minifter, then the Corps carried by the Bargemen of the King-George, and the Pall was fup- ported by the principal Officers : The Governor fol- lowed as chief Mcurner, then Cficers of the Troops and the Mafter- Artificers, employed in Building the Fort, two and two ; and the whole clofed with a Captain’s Guard : Upon coming to the Ground, the Troops under Arms form’d a Ciicle, Divine Service was performed, and a Sermen fuitable to the awful Occafion preached by the Rev. Mr. Phillips : And upon the Interment of the Corps, the Guards fired three Vollies over the Grave. We hear from Lancafter, that on the Evening of the 27th ult. between 11 and 1z at Night, a Bard belonging to Capt. Levi Willard,and near his Houfe, was firuck by Lightning, and almoft inftantaneouily allin a Blaze—— At firft the Wind was Eafterly,and burft the Flames directly on the Houfe ; but fuddenly it turned to the North Weft, by which the Houfe was prelerved ; a manife/l Inflance of divine Compa/fion to0 the difireffed. Hon. Adm. Bofcawen fet out for Portfmcath to take upon him the com- nand of the fleet We hear that fome cutters are ordered to watch the motions of the French fleet at Breft and Rochfort The laft letters from France mention, that an em- bargo was laid on all thips in the river of Bourdeaux, and at other French ports in the Channel. Capt. Verden, General Fermor’s Aid de camp, feized in Poland by a Prufiian major of huflars, was carrying the plan of operatious for the next campaign to the court of Peterfbourg ; which being now in pofleflion of his Pruffian Majefty, a new one muft be formed which will be a woik of time. Tlie captain offered 100,000 rubles for his ranfom. ADMIRALTY OFFICE, April 3. His Majefty’s fhips Southampton and Melampe, commanded by tlie Captains Gilchrift and Hotham, on the 28th pait, came up with the Danae, a French Frigate of 40 Guns 2nd 330 Men, which aftera brifk engagement, wastaken, having between 30 and 45 men killed, and a great number wounded, The Southampton had 1 killed and 8 wounded ; amongft the latter was Capt Gilchrift, who being fhot thro’ the right fhoulder with a Pound ball, has been put a ftiore at Yarmouth. The Meclampe had 8 men kill- ed and 20 wounded. Portfmouth, April 4. Rear Admiral Cornifh is preparing to {ail for the Eaft-Indies to morrow, in the Lenox of 74 Guns, Capt. Jocelyn ; Ducd’Ac- quitance of 64, Capt Sir Wm. Hewet; York of 60, Capt.Pearfe ; and Falmouth of 50,Capt. Hughes. ¢ The Eccho, Capt.
