Ten of the above Ships are to cruize between Halifax and the River St. Law- rence ; the Sutherland and Porcupine to cruize between Halifax and Bofton, and 3 Ships of the Line are to be employed in guarding the Coaft between New-York and Philadelphia ; which we make no doubt, in due Time, will give a good Account of the French 64 Gun Ship and Frigate, which Admiral Coates informed the Merchants of Jamaica, he had certain Advice were ready to fail, to cruize on the Coaft of Philadel- phia. There arrived fome Tranfports with the Fleet, but Capt. Deane cannot be pofi- tive with refpect to the Number. Capt. Deane alfo advifes. that a Sloop was difpatched Jrom Halifax, about 14 Days ago, for the River St. Lawrence, in order to infpedt into the State of it, and if @t ber Return, there was no Ice, the Fleet was to pro- seed immediately up the River. In Capt. Deane came Paffenger, the moff unfortunate Richard Baron, late Commander of the Sloop Dolphin, bound from Teneriff to New York, who in a bard Gale of 'vind, on bis Paflage, loff his Sails and Rigging ; after which, be was 115 Days entirely deflitute of Provifions of every Kind, fubfifiing on nothing bat Bar- nacies and Grafs which grew on bis Vefel : Reduced to the greateft Extremity, they were at laft -obliged, tho with the utmoft Relultance, to agree, which they all cenfented to, that one fbould die for the Prefirvation of the reff ; accorcingly thes caft Lots, and be while un Bappy Fate it wasts fall ¢ Victim. fubmitted to be fbot and was their Suflenance for fome Time, when it pleajed God to fend ts their Relicf Capt. Bradfbaw. buund from Phmuwthto Halifax, who tosk the Survivers on board bis Ship and carried them into that Port, where shey were taken Care of on Board the Vanguard. BOS T ON, May 7. Wednefday laft, two Men who were out about their Bufinefs, were taken Prifo- ners by the Indians at Weft Hoofuck ; ’s not known what Number of the Enemy there were. Saturday lat James Serjeant, Thomas Rudge, Nathan Burder and Hannah Burder all of Malden, came to Town to Marker, in a fmall Spreet-fail Boat, but on their Re- turn home, about one ©’Clock, a fudden Guft arofe, and overfet the Boat, by which the three Men were drowned 3 the Wo- man was raken up byone of the Winnifim- et Ferry Boats, and is likely to do well. Laft Tuefday arrived here Capt. Free- man in a Schooner from Oporto in feven ‘Weeks, by whom we learn, That juft be- fore he fail’d, they had received Advice of the Death of the King of Spain ; and it was zenerally believed to be true by the Conful and the Englith Fatory there.— They alfo had an Account, That the En- glith Packet from England to Lifbon in her Paffage fell in with a Ship in great Diuftrefs, which prov’d to be a Frenchman, homewarn-bound from the Weft-Indies, fuppofed to be worth £. 20,000 Sterling ;3 The Frenchman willingly fubmitted to be taken by the Packet, who carried herinto 250 250 Lifbon :—That the Jcfuits which were confined in ther Convent, on Sufpicion of their being conceraed 1n 1he late Confpira- cy to take away the Life of the King of Portugal, were fentenced to a perpetval Ba- nifhment. Captain Nathaniel Mafon arrived at Moarblehead on Sawurday laft from Louts- bourg, which Place he left the Tuelday before, and informs, That 12 Sail of the Line and 28 Tranipors, baving Troopson board, arrived at Louifbourg before he failed ; and chat a 50 Gun Ship, and three Frigates, befides 3 of 20 Guns, 3 Sloops, and 12 empty Tranfports, were gone for Halifax, where ’iis not doubted they are fafe arrived. Exiraft of a Letter from Albany, April 20: ¢« Sir William Jchnion has had a Meet- ing at Connojohary, with between 5 and 6oo Indians, amongft whom were Depu- ties from four other Nations befides thofe of the fix Nations. They have all declared their Sentiments and Intentions of joining with the Englith againft the French ; they appear to be {incerely difpos’d to affift us in the approaching Campaign ; and are very earpeft that we thould go againft Nia- gara ; and it is confidently faid here, thatin fuch Cafe, Sir William would be able to mufter and march with near 1000 Indians. They brought down and delivered at this Meeting feveral Englith Prifoners; and have promifed to deiiver the reft they have amongft them, to the Governor of Penn- fylvania. We hear alfo, that a confidera- ble Body of the moft remote Seneca Indi- ang, are coming down to Sir William’s Houfe from the Meetirg, in order to go out againft the Enemy immediately.” PO R 80 - Pkl Laft Monday about two o'Cleck in the Morning, we had an uncommon Storm of Thunder and Light- ning, which produced fome melancholly Effedts, as it has greatly damaged the Rev. Mr. Haven’s Meeting Houle ; the Lightning ftruck the Steeple, and rend- ing the Spire in Pieces quite down to the Cu- pulo, over the Bzll, defcended in the N. Ezfterly and S. Wefterly Corner Polts ; the former of which it fhiver’d in fmall Strips from End to End ; and fhat ter’d one of the main Polls in the End of the Houle : It {eems then to have moved hornzontally upon the Stones of the Underpinning, asit has {plit a confider- able Piece off a Stone at the S. W. Corner of the Meeting Houfe, and entered the Greund at 10 or 15 Feet Diftance, making two confiderable Holes : But it is pretty evident a Part of it tock its Courfe Nor- therly, as three Cows and a Heg were in the Morn- ing fourd dead on the N Sideof the Meeting Houfe, two of which we:e in 2 Stable about 60 Feet from the Steeple. The Giafs Windows in the Stecple are all broke ; two Cafements, next the Peft that was {plit to Pieces, were ftove quite into the Houfe : Mot of the Glafs in the Wefterly End was bicke ; and fome on the Scuth Side : The Floor in the W, End was kove up : And feveral other Appearances there are of an extenfive Shock 3 but it is remarkable that no Part tock Fire in the leaft Degree, and that the Beil is not at all damaged. We here behold the Works of God, and Jome of the Wonders avhich he hath avrought, as we have a freth Infiance of that marvellous Power with which he has enducd the e/efric Fire : This Meeting Houfe feems particularly expoled to its Effects,as it is fitnated upon a {fmall Elevation, which has on three Sides of it, not far diftant, large Quantities of Water, which are powerful Non Eleftricks : And as this is the {econd or third Time it has been ftruck with Lightning ; Query, Whether the Wier Points properly erefied, qwould not be of Serwice, as there are many in Philadel- phia, New York, and Bofion, and there is no Inflance of any Meeting Houfe, or other Building, reciiving any Damage by Lighining fince. As an Evidence that Metal will condu& the Elec- trical Fire, it is worthy of Notice that the Wooden Bails, thro’ which the Iren Spindle was extended, remained unhurt, Capt. Shores, who came in here laft Tuefday from Saltortuga, fpoke with a Sloop the zift of April bound to Virginia, the Mafter of which told him they bad been out of Antigua fix Days, and that the French at Grand Terre had furrendered themfelves up to the Enghifh, avd thac the fame was expetied Lays at Guardaioupe. e hear from Biwerly that on Sunday Aoril 20th in the Afternoon, the Houle of one dir. Picker of that Town carch’'d cn Fire, aihich joon communic.ted it/elf to the next Houje, belor g to ome of the fame Name ; borh of thon were burne to the Ground, alio a Shp and Jundry Barns.— Four Families aere bu nt out, and but JSew of thiir Goods fawved Its juppofed that jome Children ieft at Home made a Ny e near the Houfe avkile the People were at Meeting, which occafioned this for- rowful Difafier. Portymoui, May g The COMET mentiored in your laft, has moved in a d:fferent Manner irom what was fuppoled from the firt Obfervations. Have had only one Opportunity of making an exaltOblervation fince, viz laft Saturday Evening, when its Diftance trom Cor Lionis was 29 d. i7 m : from Spica Vir- ginis 4td. 17 m ; fo that it moved in 4 Days from the 1ft Inftant bat little more than double the Space which it appeared to have runihro’ in the p:eceed.ng 24 Hours: its Magnicude alfo is diminilhed ; and therefore conclude, inftead of going towards the Sun, it is departing from it, and is the fame which was feen in the Moruning ; which has continued 1t’s Moticn S. Wefterly, tha’ it feem: :~ move towards the N.W, its Orbit making a confiderable Angle with the Earth's Axis.
