Sunday lagt arrived two French fhips, taken by his majefty’s fhips theEdizbuigh,Princefs Mary, Dreadnought and Lively (which laft came in with them) who were lying in Ifabella road, in the ifland of Hifpaniola, and on feeing fix fhips, immediate!y weighed, and ftood after them ; but four of them having the wind of our fhips efcaped. The prizes carry 24 guns, and 150 men each ; one bound from St. Maloes, the other from Marfeilles to Cape Yraneois. Their cargoes are faid to confift chiefly of filks, velvets, &c. and a large quantity of Caflile foap, and are reckoned to be worth upwards of fifty thoufand pounds. Augufi 6. Monday arrived his majefly’s thips Edinburgh, Princes Mary and Dreadnought, from a cruize. They bro’t in ‘with them a French fhip of about 150 tons, bound from Marfeilles to Cape Francois ; this being the fourth prize they bave taken fince their cruize, three of which have asrived here, the fourth retaken. . On Tuefday laft arrived here Mr. Quin, a Mariner, who informs us, that himfelf, and 15 others, made their Efcape from Cape-Francois in a Long Boat the vgth Ioft. and at thatTime there were lying there four French Ships of War, none of which, he fays, mounts lefs than 60 Guns, and that two of thefe Ships arrived from Old France five or fix Days before their Elcape. Gordon, Commander of the Mercury Privateer, who left Port Royal the zoth ult. en- gaged a French Privateer Brig. of 14 fix Pounders, and 150 Men, for two Hours and a Half, wherein he exchanged up- wards of 40 Broadfides.
