HUNDRED ILION Public Building Program Calcu- lated to Aid Unemployment Washington, Oct. 10 (UP)—More than $100,000,000 in new public | building contracts will be let by the treasury in 1930 in carrying out an cxpanded building program which the administration planned as an aid to business recovery. Answering a republican congres- sional critic who wrote President Hoover recently complaining that | the treasury was not expediting the enlarged building program as rapid- ly as possible, Assistant Treasury | Sercetary Ferry K. Heath yesterday | made public figures showing greater | public building activity than ever | before. In the present calendar year, the treasury has awarded 66 contracts for buildings to cost $43,000,000 and has plans to let 49 additional con- | tracts aggregating $30,000,000 fin the remaining three months of 1930. | To this $73,000,000 must be added the cost of land which will bring the total above $100,000,000 this year. Treasury officials estimate that $40,000,000 of this amount will be paid to labor for the work of fabri cating materials and erecting the | buildings included in the program. Building contracts are now being | let at the rate of one every two and | a half days. | The treasury is now working un- | der an aggregate program calling for expenditure of $5 0,000 over a 10 year period which began in | 1928.
