REPUBLIGAN PARTY BREACH GROWING Pennsylvania G. 0. P. Battle Precipitated by Atterbury Philadelphia, Oct. 10 (A — The breach in the republican party of Pennsylvania is growing. Starting with the revolt of power- ful Philadelphia leaders against the candidacy of Gifford Pinchot, r lican nominee for governor, republicans in other parts of state have declared for John Hemphill, democratic-liberal oppo- nent of Pinchot What is considered in political circles as one of the most important recent developments in a campaign that is daily growing more bitter was the resignation of General W. W. Atterbury, president of the Penn- sylvania railroad, as republican na- tional committeeman from Pennsyl vania. Leaders Organize While Edward was announcing at Harrisburg the resignation of Atterbury, substantial business men, bankers and indus- trial leaders, inent in republican politics, were or- ganizing in Pittsburgh to aid Hemp- hill.
