Welles of Lincoln street, one of the known kindergarten teachers New Britain, has asked for, and been granted, a permanent vacation, and has retired from perhaps one of the longest periods of teaching | of any teacher in the city, a matter | of 37 years. She was granted retire- ment pension by the State Teachers Reitrement board Saturday Miss Welles always taught ergarten. She started in high sehool building in 1893 remained there for three vears and then went to the Bartl chool, where she t®ught kindergarten for one year. From 1897 to 1900 she taught in the Burritt school and then for three years taught in the Emith school. For six years, from 1903 to 190 Miss Welles was at the Monroe school, and then, from 1809 until 1916 she taught in the Monroe and Northend schools. One in full time at the Northern school fol- lowed by one year in the Smalley and Lincoln schools, and then from 1918 until 1 she was at the Northend school. In 1923 Miss Welles went Rockwell school. anfj then from 1924 until last month taught in the Lincoln school. One of thie interesting things of note in Miss Welles' record is that she had no year out for iliness or travel.
