BRIDGEPORT GRL DROWNS IN QUARRY Yictim Appealed fo Moforist fo Give Her “Protection” Bridgeport, Feb. 8 (F—A girl who was drowned when an automobile in which she was sitting backed over an embankment and fell 15 feet into the old quarry pond off Park avenue, morth of Capital avenue, shortly be- fore 9 o'clock last night was iden- tifled as Miss Annie Monko, 20, formerly a roomer at 645 Warren street. A few minutes before her death, mccording to the atories told by three young people who were in the car Mith her when it tumbled into the vater, the girl had come running up to the car from another big sedan which had driven up to the isolated #pot where the drowning took place, and asked the three people in the car to give her ‘“protection” and help her to get home, In the car into which the plimbed were sitting Maurice John Ardito and Hazel May Smith, #ll of Bridgeport. According to the girl's request to take her home, Kiely started to back around to get out onto the main thoroughfare, not knowing that there was an open quarry filled with water nearby. He backed into the quarry, girl Kiely, the car falling in five feet of water, and | Kiely and the strange caught in the car. The two others were thrown clear. Kiely's head remained above water and he was rescued shorily after- ward by police and firemen The girl was dead when pulled from the. water. The thrce others were taken to St. Vincent's hospital suffering from exposure. The dead girl was identified today by Mrs. Helen Frecop of Southport.
