JOURNEY OF DEATH THING OF PAST Progress Detours Old New Mexico Trail Las Cruces, N. M., June 3 (®— America’s oldest trail—the Jornado del Muerto (Journey of Death), the | highway of aboriginal man centurles before Kuropeans dreamed there ern republic, most of the commerce between northern New Mexico and the United States came this way. Over this route the members of the ill-tarred Texas-Sante Fe ex- pedition were driven in 1842 to Mexican prisons and it was over this trail that Alexander Doniphan travelled with his memorable little army of Missourians to defeat @& superior Mexican army at Brazito without the loss of a man.
