NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1926, WANTS AUTO CLUB | MOVE STARTED NOW - Chamber of Commerce Secret ary‘ to Seek Authority Definite steps will be taken im- mediately towards the formation of an automobile club in this city, rather than have New Britain mo- torists affillated with the Hartford club, for the purpose of bringing more attentiongto traffic problems and other needs of New Britain, ac- cording to Ralph H. Benson of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Benson, in commenting this morning upon the article in yester- day’s Herald stating that steps were | on foot or in prospect to form a N Britain branch of the Hartford Au- tomobile club, said he is prepared to | go ahead, if his directors approve, | with a definite movement to organ- ize a New Britain auto club, inde- pendent of Hartford. | “We are through being a suburb | ot Hartford and it's time we stood on our own feet,” he said. The next meeting of the board of directors of the Chamber of Com- merce will be asked by Secretary| Benson to appoint a committee to| take immediate action on this ques- | tion. Judge W. C. Hungerford, presi-| dent of the Chamber, has appointed | the following committee to arrange | for the annual meeting and dinner of the chamber: John C. Loomis, | Judge B. F. Gaffney, E. J. Porter and L. W. Young. EXAMINING COMMITTEES COME UP FOR DISCUSSION Building Board to Take Action on Mayor Weld's Request For Change. City hall will witness three im- | portant meetings tonight as the ordinance committee takes up for consideration a plumbing code offer- ed by the Master Plumbers' associ- ation, chairmen of city boards et | to consider inauguration of a “taxi” | system in the municipal garage, and the building commission makes an effort to compromise on differing opinions relative to plumbing and electrical examining committees. The plumbers code is practically the same as the one now in use with a few of the suggestions contained in the code prepared by Architect Earle K. Bishop which has been re- jécted. The building commission will con- sider for a third time the request of Mayor Weld that plumbing and electrical examining committees as now constituted be dissolved and committees of a non-competitive make-up be substituted. The build- ing commissioners favor a com- promise to substitute a trade school instructor for the outside members on each board, allowing the two in- spectors and craftsmen who are members of the commission to re- main, MAPLE HILL NEWS The Woman's club of Maple Hill wa sentartained yesterday afternoon at the home of its president, Mrs. E.
