NEW BRITAIN DAILY HERALD, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29 Ly 1926. THOUGHTFEL, WALK AIDED PRESIDENT Lincoln Framed His Addresses in This Way By the Assoclated Press. Chicago, Oct. — Boxes upon boxes of his papers, now safely stored away, bear evidence that Abraham Lincoln sought solitude for his thoughts, as he walked. To visualize Lincoln seribbling thoughts on envelopes on his daily walks in Washington was the privi- lege of one of the few men who viewed his letters and papers be- fore the death of Robert T. Lincoin removed them from further perusal for twenty vears. They show Lin- coln's method, the development of his ideas, the fact that his most famous addresses were re-phased and re-written sometimes four and five times, until they became fin- ished gems of rhetorio. Put Ideas On Envelopes A scene is reconstructed. It shows Lincoln stopping in his walk reach in his coat pocket for note paper. He finds none, but finds a number of letters. He takes the envelope from one, tears it open at each end and turns it inside out. There he writes his {idea. Pis walk continues, Perhaps a second enve- lope would be used, a second idea noted. Back at his desk, he would take a plece of foolscan paper, trim the cnvelope down to the size of his no- tation on it, and paste that clip at top of the foolscap. Beneath ti clipping the idea is developed. Th cheet is marked number one. Under it, a second sheet whereupon the criginal idea is developed 2 then a third sheet and perhaps a fourth and fifth, bearing revisions. Some chieets have two revisions interlined. ng to| WILL VOICE PROTESTS ‘ City Items | Republican rally. Central Junfor | Willimantic Representatives Expect- High School tonight eight o'clock.
