MORE AUTOS BUT FEWER ACCIDENTS Mass. and New’Hampshim Show Improvement Boston, Aug. 6. (P—Although there has been a tremendous in- crease in the number of motor ve- hicles in Massachusetts this year, safety workers predict that there will be fewer automobile fatalities than in 1925. Investigadors report- ed that while motor fatalities in rural districts had increased, the number of such deaths in thickly | populated areas had steadily de- | creased during the first half of the present year, due to improved hand- ling of traffic in the larger cities.* | New England cities lasted as showing a reduction in fatal motor accidents included Fall River, New Bedford, Gardner, Pittsfield, Con- cord, N. H.; Nashua, N. H.; and Beston had only 40 auto fatalities in the first five months this year as compared to a year ago. The safety workers reported that adult jay walking, children play in streets, inattention and ss driving were the principal causes of fatal accidents, The increase in motor traffic is revealed by figures from the state registry of motor vehicles, which has issued registrations for ‘more than 600,000 passenger cars and over 96,000 trucks, the total faréhoth. | classes slightly exceeding 700,009, || The regist®ation fees to date have amounted to almost $31,000,000, an increase of more than 40 per cent |{ over the total for the some period last year.
