STATE CHEGKING UP O HEABLIGHT FVIL 1 457 Cars With Blinding Beams | Found in Two Nights The state motor vehicle ment has received from Superintend- ent Robert T. Hurley of the state police a report showing that two state policmeen stopped 1,457 auto- mobiles with glaring headlights in two nights during the past month. The officers were assigned to certain ys with instructions to s r which in their opinion, erously sharp headlights. were made. The polic ly Informed each operator d that his headlights ne ntion. The check-up was made at the re- quest of the motor vehicle depart- ment, which is attempting, through the medium of the e ence of motor vehicle ministrators to relleve the headlight situation, not only so far as Connecticut cars are concerned, but cars registered throughout the east. The purpose is to get all the states in the eastern conference, which includes all on the Atlantic seaboard from Maine to Virginia, inclusive, and several oth- ers, to-arrive at a solution from a technical as well as administrative standpoint. The matter has been the subject of communications with the bureau of standards of the United States department of com- merce, and lighting engineers of different states in the eastern con- ference are working together to agree on improved methods of road illuminatlon. Fifty-six different makes of cars were found by the Connecticut state police, In the two-nights checkup, to have glaring headlights.
